A New Apprenticship (Pokemon RP)

As the night sky settled in, everyone was sleeping, preparing for a new day or work, school...or even adventure. All the lights in the Cherrygrove city shut off near simaultaniouosly....except one window whose tv light was a glaring flash as opposed to the darkness around the town. Sat a tall 15 year old boy, curled up in excitement on his bed watching the tv in his small wooden room. Where an old man appeared on screen, with a fire mouse pokemon, a big jaw pokemon, and a tiny leaf pokemn.

"Hiya kids, and thank you for those who signed up for the Apprenticeship Program. It is your host Shigeru Miyamoto, and i read off the two names who signed up and when they shall come by my lab, for the apprentice's pokemon! Now the winners are Deandre Taylor of Cherrygrove who signed up as an apprentice! And Sarah Flynn from Blackthorn who signed up from a mentor! Thats all for the show, POKEMON DIRECT!...See you tomorrow." The tv went off, and Deandre looked at the tv with a wide grin, excited for his first adventure to come true. But now fatigued, he curled up into his bed and slept until the next morning.

Sarah turned off the TV after watching the program. "My apprentice is Deandre Taylor. Hmmmm don't know who he is but i'll make him the best....well second best." She laughed to herself. She grabbed her Espeon and snuggled with it. "We got a big day tomorrow. All of us." She said glancing over at the 5 Pokeballs containing her other but much larger friends."I guess it'll be tough training some newbie but we can do it." She reached over pulling the string on her lamp shutting off the light. She then rolled over at closed her eyes Espeon getting comfortable within her arms and lying down.

Deandre awoke as the sun from the window shined on his face. As groggily as he was, he looked at the clock at the side of his bed, and his mouth dropped open. "9-9:30?! IM LATE!" He yelled with surprise. He quickly put on his clothes and jumped through his window, breaking the glass, his arms a bit bloody from doing so, but he couldn't care less. As he ran up the road he could see the old man, that seemed to be unloading boxes into what formerly was Professor Elm's house, which got foreclosed after a 10 year old didnt get back to him on his research that he worked so hard on. The old man looked up and was ran over by Deandre. "Ow..." he groaned. Then he quickly jumped up and helped up the old man. "Sorry Mr. Miyamoto!" He brushed himself off and looked behind him. "....your here....but where is your mentor."

Sarah yanwed sitting on the roof of the building. She noticed him arrive and called down to the two. "About damn time you showed up kid. I've been up here waiting." Her Espeon called down to the people below. Sarah yawned throwing out her Flygon's pokeball and hopping on it. She rode it down to the ground and got off walking up to Deandre. "Nice to meet you Deandre. I'm Sarah." She looked back at the old man. "Miyamoto right? Let's just get this over with."

"Why of course..." He picked up on the boxes and dumped out three pokeballs, each labeled differently depending on what the starter was inside. "Now...you have three choices....Chikorita the grass type" He gestured to the pokeball with a leaf on it. "Cyndaquil the fire type." He gestured to the pokeball with a fireball on it. "And Totodile the water type." He gestured towards the pokeball with a water drop on it. "You only get one choice..." Deandre walked up to one of the pokeballs and looked down. Examining each, and picking up the pokeball that had the water drop on it.

"Totidile eh? I choose Cyndaquil back when I started." She threw out her pokeball with Typhlosion in it. "Meet my first Pokemon." She smirked and then looked at Miyamoto. "Alright he chose his first Pokemon. What was the deal with this program? I know I have to train him but do I lead him around and train him so he can beat the gym leaders or what?"

"That is exactly it!" Miyamoto said proudly, "I figured i should settle back and help the youth of today excel to their full potential." From awhile away from the lab, a vague police siren can be heard, "...Okay now its best you two get off my property, i will check in on your progress at every chance i get." He said, as he began rummaging through one his boxes and pulled out a lazer shotgun. "Away I say! Shoo!" He aimed down the road.

"Ummmmm dafuq?" She shrugged and pushed Deandre along. "Let's get moving." SHe returned Flygon and Typhlosion to their balls and pushed him. "And no free rides either. We're walking the whole damn path of Johto. I don't like it myself but i'm not helping you cheat." She pushed him forward away from the professor and towards the first town on his journey.

"So wheres our first stop?" He asked curiously. He held Totodile's pokeball in his hand, And looked at it intently. Excitment flowing through him of the realization that he was now a pokemon trainer...but the reality quickly shattered when he realized that he had a mentor, or in his head a "Babysitter"

"Well first thing we need to do is head to your home in Cherrygrove. You can grab whatever you need then we can go up and hit Violet City. By then you should have gotten enough experience to beat Falkner and get your first badge. Hopefully...and if you're wondering i'm just gonna act more like a bodyguard then a teacher. I'll teach you whatever basics you don't know and then i'll just serve as escort. Even though the Johto champion took down Rocket again you never know if they're gonna try something, and right now you're to weak to fight them."

"Yeah Yeah sure sure...whatever." He said not really bothering to pay attention, as they walked over to his house he climbed in through his broken window, and began packing his belongings, before hearing the loud banging on the door. "DEANDRE ARE YOU THERE??!?! YOUR IN SO MUCH TROUBLE!" His mom yelled through the door. Deandre looked back and quickly jumped out the window, and dashed up the road the fastest he can.

Sarah stepped inside of Deandre's home handing his mother the money needed to repair the window. SHe explained what was going on and then left out the door following Deandre at a normal walking pace her hands in her pockets and Espeon trailing along next to her playing with rocks using it's telekinetic powers. "Hmm he must be ahead a bit. I can only hope he knows how to battle."

Deandre ran, then eventually bounced off the gut of a rather large man, causing him to fall back into the dirt. He looked up at the figure, who wore a blue hat, a yellow shirt, blue shorts...a couple sizes to small apparantly..and blue sneakers. He looked at Deandre and smiled, pork rinds still coating his teeth. "You remind me of dat kid..from a couple years ago....you look weak howabout we battle?!"

She finally caught up to him spotting him being confronted. "Hmmmm." SHe got a closer look at the guy before busting out laughing. "Joey? Is that you? Still going on about your Rattata? Oh god...are you challenging Deandre to a battle?" She bust out laughing again before stepping back. "Alright D-man. You know how to battle right?" She had stopped laughing and her face had turned serious.

"Pfft of course i know how to battle, " Deandre said confidently, he took out his Pokeball and threw it at th ground. "Totodile I choose you!" A Totodile came out the pokeball...rather timid it seems. It looked up at Joey, and ran back to Deandre hugging his ankle. Joey had a sweatdrop and scratched his head in confusion.

"Totidile I choose you.....? Are you serious...?" She watched it run to his leg. She almost collapsed. "Looks like he doesn't want to battle...that could be a problem." She thinks for a moment. "You're gonna have to get him to fight. I'm not letting you borrow one of my Pokemon you'd roflstomp poor Joey."

"I cant force ole Fang to battle if he doesnt want to.." He said as began rubbing Totodile's head, it looked up abit, awknoledging his name, then bit Deandre's hand...hard..as if a clamp just shut. He ran around in circles in pain, "AAAAH GET IT OFFF GET IT GET IT OFFF"

"Hoooo boy...this is gonna be harder then I thought." She sighed moving her hair out of her face and repostioning her braid. She walked up to Deandre and Totidile and grabbed onto it putting her leg on Deandre and pulling with her arms while pushing with her leg. "Leggo of his arm you little brat before i make my Flygon use Hyper Beam on you!"

The totodile let go, and glared at Sarah, and jumped up and bit the top of her head. Deandre was recovering from the event that had just transpired. And Joey....was watching the fiasco while eating Pork Rinds, his face showing real intent, and interest as he watched the show.

Sarah's Espeon Nikki instantly jumped into action headbutting the Totodile off her head. It landed next to Sarah and glared at it. "Espeeee" It's eyes started to glow as if in a warning that Fang hadn't experienced even an ounce of it's power.

The totodile glared at Espeon, before climbing on his trainer's shoulder. Joey took this as an opportunity to finally get the battle started. "Go Raticate!" He threw out an old greasy pokeball, and out came a raticate. "Fang use-" But before he could utter a phrase the Totodile was already attacking Joey's Pokemon with a barrage of scratches. The raticate, taking hit after hit, before finally being Kod. Joey at the mere sight was mortified. "...my raticate...was a top of the line....how did you..." He picked up his raticate slowly, "Dont worry pal, i get you to the pokemon center. " He tried to run, but slipped and rolled away down a hill back towards CherryGrove.

She watches him roll down the hill. "Heh....Joey used Rollout." She glances back at Deandre and then frowns at Fang. She stomped up to him. "Control your Pokemon better!" She shouted it in his face. "You may have won this battle but that was only because Joey was an extremely weak opponent. If this had been a serious Pokemon battle you would have lost. Without their trainers commanding them Pokemon are reckless they make brash decisions and can end up getting hurt! You have to assert dominance over Totodile and let him know who's calling the shots here or he's going to end up getting hurt!"

Deandre was already walking up the road, not really paying attention, his totodile sticking his tongue at Sarah. "Yeah yeah, hey whatever helps me get far." He stopped and read the sign in front of him. "To...Violet City....Looks like this is it." But before he could go inside he heard a whisper, he looked down to see a man, with a dirty white lab coat, and broken glasses inside a cardboard box. "...you....you may not know who i am...but I'm professor elm...i used to be a pokemon professor back at New Bark..."

She was furious her face red as she followed after Deandre. "Look smartass if you're not gonna listen to me maybe I should just kick your ass and take all of your mon....."She noticed Prof.Elm. "Elm is that you?" SHe knelt down next to him. "What the heck happened? Backwhen you gave me my Cyndaquil you seemed perfectly fine. Whya re you in a box?"

"It happened....with...that man...." He rasped. "He just came and took my lab....and now the lab and everything in it...as at his mercy...." He said rocking back and forth. "I called the police recently...i saw them head for the lab....but i'm not sure if they made it safely in time or not...all i know for sure is this man is armed!" ..."It all happened a while ago...after the 10 year old boy didnt come back with helping me with my research...i was in deep, then HE came and kicked me out! I been here ever since..." He shivered at the thought of remembering it all.
