Dance with the Devil

This one described what happens after using Empyrean magic and running out of soul.

It doesn't kill you; it just makes you wish you could die. The immortality that comes with it hurts. All the time and a lot.

The Watcher then wrote about what it gave him, what it took, but ultimately, he just repeated one word three times.

Regret. Regret. Regret.

"Man now I kind of feel sad for him but then again...it's his own fault for using such magic."

The book described all the ways he tried to off himself, but nothing worked.

He tried for decades; even paying people to kill him and refusing to give them money each time they failed.

Eventually, he come to the conclusion that maybe there's something he has to do, some mission or a change in the world. Unfinished business.

", This is sad...so said. Cursed with immorality the.

The short, forty-page book ended on a sour, yet somewhat optimistic note.

The Watcher pledged he'd do good, make the world somewhat more bearable, maybe find something worth the immortality.

"Hmm... maybe the watcher can be convinced to stop this without me having to fight him...than again...how ..how do you convince that the demons don't want anything to do with the mortal world..." Recin started reading the other book.

The last book of the three, Vigilance.

Somehow, Recin managed to read them all in chronologic order.

This one had him establishing the UMC as his base of operating a putting a magic bubble around Hell as a safety measure.

He wanted to undo it, but the majority of mages representing the various schools voted for the bubble to remain in effect.

Hell was, after all, the evil realm and Heaven was the good realm. All in all, it made sense to lock one and keep the other.

But he was wrong. 

They weren't sworn enemies anymore; the realms were practically allied with one another. Why? Mortals stopped caring where they end up, as long as they end up somewhere.

In response to Hell being persecuted for its history, even though it did nothing for the last seventy years, Heaven changed to reflect how it was historically and how people though it should be under the fear that if they don't, they'd get locked up as well.

There was another vote, but again, the majority of mages were still against him undoing what he had done.

"Good.then I'll already have the watcher on my side. Maybe it's the other mages I need to convince"

The book ended on him trying for the third time to change their mind, but a majority vote was a majority vote and he put the system in place in the first place.

He never though something like a tyrrany of the majority would happen; he just wanted all mages to have a say in all affairs.

Recin out the book back. "I think we need to go to the watcher now" Recin walked out only taking the lich book up the stairs.

At the very top, there was just a plain, wooden door. No label or any name on it.

Recin opened the door. him and Wendigo went inside.

The was very barren; a boarded up window, a single candle and a haystack in one corner.

The Watcher was sitting in the middle of the room meditating, his back turned on them.

Recin walked closer and tapped him.

The Watcher got up and turned around.

Pale skin, sunken, dead eyes, skin covered in scars. It was not a pretty sight.

"Are the watcher? " Recin asked very politely giving a smile. Though inside Recin was sad.

"Yes, that would be me," the watcher replied. "By how quickly you've dealt with both one of my advisors and Legion, the entirety of my guard, you must be an assassin."

"No I'm not or at least not anymore...I killed your advisor because he didn't give me a choice. Legion n is alive. I've read your books... I know that you are against this bubble surrounding hell. Well...that bubble is no more...the devil, a few arch de demons and I have completely destroyed it." Recin held the lich book tightly.

The Watcher sighed; he wanted to die.

"He'll be back; he's a lich," the Watcher explained. "I know; I didn't put it back up. Tomorrow, they'll vote to have it set up again."

"I'm not going to let that happen. It's wrong! And you know it is!!!"

"I know, but that's how voting works; majority wins and those that don't just have to live with it," the Watcher continued. "What do you expect me to do? Blackmail, death threats?"

"I'll kill them. If I can't convince them I'll kill them all!!!"

"If you so much as touch them, I'll show you what empyrean magic does in the hands of a loremaster."

"Grrr!! But they are freaking close minded fools!!!! I'd there a way to convince them otherwise? Hell hasn't wanted to do anything for years!" Wendigo finally went inside the conversation. "Can't you just show how's the demons are in hell? I mean they didn't really act evil...."

"I've already done that. Fifty-two percent were still against me shutting down the bubble for good."
