The jackal statues sprung to life, but they did not attack. They patiently waited for Liela to leave the room.

They were still docile. The one closest to her sniffed her, but other than that, it didn't do anything.

The jackal closest to the door to their master's resting place fiercely growled at them. "Yeah, no," Ayah said. "We have to fight them."

Maggie went by the rule that growling doesn't mean biting and she was right; while the jackal did growl at her some more, it didn't follow or attack her when she was in the final room.

There was a lot of gold, treasure, as well as scraps of papyrus, the things Liela needed.

"Just take the papyrus, Maggie. I'm pretty sure if you take some gold or treasure, they are going to get mad."

She took the papyrus and the dungeon ended. All except Maggie went up to level 39, with Liela even acquiring a miniature jackal statue.

The the note that came with the statue said 'For the non-greedy adventurer', followed by 'Give to a good home.'

The book showed her the item in her inventory and it was listed as Pet, not Decoration.

A small, baby jackal appeared on the ground, curled up in a ball. It wasn't a statue; it was a real thing, with pitch black fur.
