The shapeshifter let out a puff of smoke. "She lacks confidence. The discipline taught by her previous master still runs deep." How he knew all this? He'd seen artificial-made demons go through more than one master and the result was always the same – the first one left an imprint and whoever came after that could never, ever remove it.

The book's page twenty showed the following information.

'Name : Deserted Village
Level range : 25-30
A small village in the middle of nowhere. Barely anyone lives there, but it should get you started on the right track.'

The book turned to the third page and showed Lillith's stats. They were slightly higher than Liela's, but they were still well-balanced. Her level, however, was just 20 and the role it assigned her was 'Distraction'.

"How are my stats higher than you but my level is lower. And the hell am I a distraction!!!" Liela was just laughing. "What's so funny? I should be the leader!"

The book showed her, in detail, of how her turn-into-ink tactics, obnoxious voice and easy-to-spot-in-a- crowd colour pattern would make her the perfect distraction, with the ability the create mirror images becoming available after level 25.

The book then turned back the 20th page and the summon words appeared.

"HEY GUYS IT'S TIME TO GO!" Liela called to everyone who was in the other room. She didn't want to leavr without them. She started to look at the summon words.

Azzar went downstairs and so did the schoolgirl, but he knew he wouldn't be able to come with them.

Before showing them the summon words, it assigned roles to everyone elligible for the campaign. Liela's role was changed from Leader to Tank, meaning that if things went down, she'd have to be the one to protect her fellow teammates. The rest of the roles stayed unchanged, but the book allowed Liela to change both theirs and hers, if she so wished.

Instead of now-traditional summon words, there was just a drawing of a blue circle, with a blue ord in the middle. Beneath them, the text explained 'Place hand here to fast-travel to the Deserted Village.'

The walls melted away and they appeared to be in the eye of a large, whirling blue vortex before it spat them out to their destination – the abandoned village.

Houses were broken down, that weren't had their doors and windows boarded up and the whole place smelled of dread and uneasiness as everything around seemed dead. The skies were an unnatural, reddish black and the ground itself felt more than ashes than dirt.
