Guiding Light

About an hour after they'd arrived, Wolf seems to get a bit more restless in the bed. He'd rolling from side to side occasionally and grumble quietly to himself as well.

Flame glanced over at the sleeping wolf. She could only assume he was having himself an intense dream or something of the sort. Her brow furrowed as she considered that she had yet to actually ask why that coyote had attacked them earlier.

The hedgehog exhaled and turned her attention back to her phone. She'd put it on silent after another phonecall came in and had since sent a couple of hopefully reassuring text messages to the caller. For now, things seemed alright, though. Enough that she could just sit back and let her temporary companion sleep before making anymore decisions.

A few more minutes passed...

Wolf awakens, letting out a breath sharply, then sits up and begins looking around the room almost frantically.

The sudden awakening made Flame jump as well, fumbling her phone briefly in her paw as she looked towards Wolf. She was quick to gather her wits, however, and asked, "What what? Bad dreams? You okay?"

"I... I don't know..." Wolf replies.

He calms slightly.

"I thought he was here... I was sure of it..." he says as he glances towards Flame.

He looks towards the door.

"And I really feel like we should leave." he adds.

"Well, you've had your backside handed to you pretty hard today," Flame pointed out, "It was probably just a bad dream."

She briefly followed his gaze over towards the door.

"So, you wanna leave here and go where, exactly?" she asked, sounding rather doubtful of the idea, "How do we know we won't be spotted runnin' around out there?"

Wolf shakes his head slightly.

"I don't know where... I just... feel like we should leave. That we aren't safe here..." he replies, "It's what my instincts tell me. And I don't know if we'll be spotted... Maybe it would be a mistake..."

He looks at Flame.

"I just... don't really have any answers for you." he says.

Flame frowned, uncertain of the options available.

"I don't know..." she replied, "I think you're mostly just shaken up." There was a pause as the hedgehog glanced around the room and then down to her phone. "Hhhhow about let's lay low a little longer and see if you feel a little better? If not, we'll go ahead and get going," she suggested.

"How much longer do you think?" Wolf asks, staring back at her.

Flame shrugged. "I dunno, how long do you think is okay? An hour?" she asked, "You're kinda makin' me paranoid, and at this rate, I'll be peekin' out that window before too long."

"Well... I'd prefer to leave immediately rather than waiting around here." Wolf says.

He turns away from Flame and moves to the edge of the bed. He carefully climbs off, keeping both paws on the bed for balance for a few moments. He still felt tired, but the rest he had gotten had done him some good.

Flame sighed, huffing her bangs from her face in the process. She also turned away, lowering her feet down to the floor. The hedgehog was really not in the mood for paranoia and she groaned softly as a few sore spots protested her rising to her feet. Her gaze wandered to the window and she closed the short distance between it and the bed.

Moving to the side of the window farthest from the door, she gave the curtain the slightest nudge so that she could peer outside. Of course, she didn't expect to see anything, but better to be cautious...

Outside of the room, everything seems to be as it should be. It just appeared that the central lot of the motel was devoid of activity.

Flame snorted softly as she saw nothing of note outside the room. She let the curtain shift back into place, then turned and stepped away from the window.

"I don't see anything out there," she told Wolf, "I think we're fine for now."

She looked down to her phone in her paw as she began to move around to the other side of the bed towards the bathroom.

Wolf moves over to the window after Flame heads off towards the bathroom. He looks outside as well.

"Maybe..." he replies, "I hope you're right."

"Which brings up a really good question I've been meaning to ask," Flame added as she stepped into the bathroom, but left the door open. The sound of running water in the sink could be heard a moment later.
"Why exactly did that guy attack you?" A pause. "Do you guys know each other or what?"

Wolf looks back towards the bathroom doorway.

"I honestly have no idea why. This isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened though." he replies, "I've never found out what they want... but they've caused a lot of harm in the process."

"Well that's just ridiculous," came the hedgehog's comment.

The sound of running water stopped and, after another moment, Flame stepped out of the bathroom again, drying her good paw on her shorts and holding her phone in her other paw.

"People don't just attack somebody for no reason. Especially not the same person, over and over."

"I'm sure they have a reason. I said I don't know what it is." he replies, "It's not like they have ever stopped to explain why."

"Sounds like you need a way to interrogate 'em," Flame pointed out, "Not that I'm about to try and catch that psycho that was after you a while ago. But still..."

She glanced off to one side, seemingly considering something.

Wolf looks at Flame quizzically.

"Interrogate?" he repeats to her.

"Yeah, you know. Get some answers outta them," Flame replied. She briefly made a fist with her right paw. "Make 'em talk if you have to."

"Oh, I see." Wolf replies, "I don't know how to go about doing that. These people always seem too strong to overcome."

"Well obviously, you need to find someone stronger than them to take your side then," Flame suggested.

"I guess so... but how can I ask someone to take on my problems for me?" he replies, "What if it gets them hurt, or worse?"
