Chapter One - First Contact
Station Square, the city of beauty, a popular place to be, recently rebuilt and flourishing more than it ever was before. A very popular destination indeed.
Streets always busy, and life happening normally.

The only thing that was wrong was the fact that people had facemasks on. Plastic ones, similar to those that surgeons would wear. At first glance it would be odd. Ridiculous... But there was a reason behind it all. A very good reason. Extreme measures were being took when it came to a special disease believed to be carried by air.

A horrible disease at that. Something that would make you very ill in a few days. A very contagious, dangerous one indeed... It makes you vomit, it makes you feel faint... in some cases it even kills, apparently.

Which only arises the question. Why not leave, and avoid the risk altogether? The issue with that, is the fact that the city had been closed off. Completely. The entirity of the outside borders were sealed off, and unpassable. The poor souls inside of the city were trapped inside, to try and keep the virus "at bay"...

You are one of those unlucky sods. So far you haven't contracted the virus, nor came into contact with anyone who has it. You could be considered lucky, actually.

According to the government, the disease rarely kills people, and it travels through air. Wearing a facemask is apparently highly recommended.

Wandering through the city was a young, red furred fox, following the basic safety precautions. He looked quite fearful; why was he trapped here, with a disease like this flying around? Why?

He questioned it, glancing around. Unsurely he kept walking down the street. He felt a nudge from his stomach; he was quite hungry. That's all he was taking care of. Heading towards a grocery store to get some food, and then quickly going back to the hotel. Yes. Fast.

With a frown the kid noticed a few people wandering around whom had obviously contracted the disease. Sluggishly walking around, looking like they were going to pass out any moment. Pale in the face, and giving off little moans, complaining about how they felt like crap to their friends. The fox quickly stepped away from the people that were infected by the disease, avoiding them at all cost, as if his life depended on it. He didn't want to get sick. He hated it.

Having a mask under a mask was an unusual thing. For this person didn't want to risk the disease - even she didn't know if she were capable of catching it or not and it was better to be safe than sorry, especially under such dire consequences. It was absolutely terrifying how much it had spread so quickly and so... well, secretly, like it had exploded within the shadows and contaminated those who walked under its dark blanket. There were many wandering the streets who were terribly ill, and it was chilling and outright heart-stopping when occasionally a poor person would just outright drop dead onto the pavement, when a few seconds later they were stumbling about clumsily. The Goddess probably could have saved their soul. Could have stopped this. Could have joined them unto unity to sing in the Choir of Salvation like they rightfully should. A light hiss escaped an individual's lips as they shook their head. No.

They're free to make their own decisions, after all.

Standing on a metal staircase, a fire exit for emergencies upon the side of a building within an alleyway, was a red-robed figure, watching the streets from the crack of light within the shadows. Clawed, skinned feet curled on the bumped grating as a gloved hand moved to grasp the railing to the side, the staircase leading down before them in a zigzag-like fashion which they glanced over, before examining the streets once more with hidden eyes under that uncomfortable mask. They were completely covered, the gender was impossible to tell other than the slightest sign of two lumps of flesh on the chest which caused the red robe to go out a little.

They considered going out into the streets. But what would that do? Leaving was... a terrifying idea. There were dangers which caused her to hesitate away from the 'outside' world of Station Square. Did they know? Did She? It was a risk this fruit bat was not willing to take, and even this diseased dead-infested settlement was better than the possibility of being torn to pieces and being replaced.

It was best to just bide time.

"Disgusting" he muttered.

The piercing yellow eyes glanced about what appeared to be a market area?  Even he wasn't so sure, looked more like a place to drop down and die as he would put it.  The oddly colored tiger, covered in studded clothing and a leather vest walked about the area, watching the strangers wheezing and complaining about the illness spreading around the city.  Even he became sickened a bit at the sight of the sickly as he moved along, heading out of the market area.

As he was making for the exit, he stopped by some collapsed citizens, groaning and moaning about the pain, almost looking dead.  Taking a few steps over he scoffed and lightly tapped one with his foot, enough to make them roll over so he could get a good look.  The person letting out a moan of pain as he did so but offered no resistance.  "Ugh..." he grumbled as he looked over at some crates of merchandise and quickly grabbed a bandanna to wrap around his muzzle.  "These diseased people are all over the place, can't get away from them." he growled as he began to walk off.

"I need to get out of here... I don't care who close this damn city off!  I've overstayed my welcome in this plague infested place." he thought to himself as he headed down the street, trying to head for the edge of the city or at least find it.

Alright so a disease seems to have broken out, no biggy, just seemed like an awful lot of people got awfully sick and very fast. People where dying in the streets, dropping like flies. It wouldn't surprise him if they had put the city in quarantine, which pretty much meant he couldn't go anywhere

Technically he should be immune to disease anyway, should being the keyword. He didn't know this for certain other then having never gotten sick. One of the boons of having pestilence as a father, though he would have traded being sick often with having the guy for a father anyday. But he wasn't taking any chances, the moment it became clear to him that the disease was spreading like wild fire, the racoon had donned his gasmask, something he always carried with him.

Assuming the disease was transferred by air this should filter it before it could infect him. Why did he have a gasmask on hand anyway? because he didn't want to be on the receiving end of the gas grenades he used as weapons. Lethal or non Lethal.

So his first order of business was to stock up on supplies. Being the vermin he was and living outside the law did have its perks in situations like this. He had hidey holes all over the city, most rigged to explode and mostly underground in the sewers where almost no one ventured.

"Alright.. need wire... casings... capped water... not risking drinking tap water which might be how the disease spreads if not by air.."he muttered to himself, side stepping sick people and quickening his pace with a grim expression, half hidden behind his gasmask

((posting via phone. Not the best of ideas.)).

And so did the young fox wander on into the nearest grocery store. Reaching into his pockets and rummaging through them, he discovered exactly what he was looking for; just a nice little bit of dosh. Yes, money. Oh how it made the world go round...

Searching through the store he was sweating lightly. There were a few ill people around the store...

Stay away at all cost. That was his thought. The twelve year old quickly got a sandwich pack from the shelving. Refridgirated of course. Fifty five cents. Just enough for him to get the bloody thing. Quickly he wandered to the desk, well, counter. And got onto his tip toes. Wow that was high up. Glancing around... No one there. Weird... He tapped his foot.

Waiting.

On edge still... He was only waiting. Only a bit longer-And holy crap he was suddenly grabbed by one of the ill people. Instinctively he let out a loud shriek. "AGH! G-Get off of me!" Despite his cry, they wouldn't listen. And he couldn't escape the hold with his normal strength.

Outbreak: Station Square [FULL] Empty Re: Outbreak: Station Square [FULL]

Post by Spekkal Mon Mar 31, 2014 12:15 am

The sound of a muffled shrieking and a terrified voice resonated through the brick walls in the opposing building, left-side of the staircase where the red-robed individual stood. Their ears twitched in alarm and hidden eyes grew wide at sudden violence within the creepily quiet streets of the city as panic began to settle in. What in the world was going on? Someone was getting attacked! From the high-pitched tone, sounded young. A child perhaps? No no, that made it all the worse!

The hand against the railing was given a sudden push as the figure lifted themselves up from the grated surface, flinging themselves leftwards and off the staircase completely, falling two floors, before landing with a graceful 'plmff' as fingers pushed against the dirt-ridden alleyway, wings giving a small flap to keep balance.

The shrieking continued. Yes, that was a child. The nerve. The bat ran right out that alleyway, feet splashing in mud-cloaked puddles which splattered against the base of the hooded cloak to be cleaned at a later date, body bathed in sudden sunlight as the splashing became the sound of claws against cobblestone pavement. She whirled to the side, skidding on her feet and stumbling a little to keep balance as she barged through the doorway, it slamming open with a heavy 'THUD', the light jingling of the bell dangling away before falling silent.

"Get away from that youth!" the mysterious crimson figure snarled from beneath the mask, robe billowing from all that movement. Their voice, while brave, was chilling. There was something not quite right with the way they spoke and the words they uttered, that jumbling mess of an accent and just overall spine-tickling uneasiness.

Either way, they were in the doorway. They were not happy with the scene before them.

A sound?

Talon ears perked up a bit as he listened in.  The sound... it appeared to be a scream of some sort, someone in danger he figured.  He grumbled a bit, he could very easily walk away and keep going and avoiding the danger.  But at the same time maybe the scream might led him to something, even a way out.  For once he decided to go against his gut and headed for the scream.

Move rather quickly on his feet, he made a dash towards the sound's location.  After what seem like a long jog, he found... a grocery store? "Figure, they were getting supplies probably..." he growled as he stared at the store, watching some of the ill walking around him, sickly as ever.  He took a step closer to the window and saw the scene before him unfolding.  A child screaming as the ill surrounded him while what appear to be a strange figure was yelling at them to step away from the child.  "Here's my chance... I can grab some supplies." he mumbled as he went inside, quiet with each foot step.

Grabbing what he can nearby that would be useful to him, Talon watches carefully ready to fight if someone approaches him.

He'd managed to gather his capped water, the wire and something that could pass for casings. The store was surprisingly quiet, which might have something to do with some of the sick collapsed in some of the aisles. He was assuming they had simply collapsed, he didn't like thinking of the alternative. Dead bodies made him squeamish. A strange affliction to have for a terrorist for hire, but there you had it.

Hed just been picking up lighter fluid and matches when the shreek of terror from a child came from the front of the store. He flattened his ears. It really wasn't any of his business. He should just continue his foraging. He didn't even know what was going on, perhaps they'd only seen a very large spider, or someone had vomitted infront of them... or... something.. yes.. definitely non of his business. Even if the child sounded about the age of his own son...and that terror was hard to fake...and...

The next cry sent him pelting towards the screams though, not before janking a knife from one of the racks and stuffing it in the grocery bag. He might have wanted to stay out of it, but despite not wanting to be the hero and wanting to be the sane person who goes the other way, he still couldn't help but respond.

He dashed past talon and arrived about the same time Storage did, except instead of yelling at people to get away from the youth he grabbed one of the arms grabbing the boy and yanked it back, planting his foot in the back of the person it belonged to and dislocating it with an audiable pop, before kicking them into one of the cash registers, snarling at the others"Hey Lady, if ya wanna help, ah suggest doin' something other then lookin' pretty in the doorway and yellin' at people!".

And so did Sam look between the two people who were actually trying to do something helpful. While the female seemed to be against the whole thing, the raccoon guy literally dislocated the attacker's arm and threw him into the cash registers... Which created a LOT of noise.

"Wha-" He quickly shielded his ears from the loud clash, before realizing...

Every single 'sick' person was now staring at them. And they were drawing closer and closer. The person that was thrown wasn't writhing in pain. More... mumbling nonesense, slowly getting to their feet, and joining the other five in a not-so-clever formation, inching closer and closer.

The kid glanced to Toxic. "Th-Thanks." He said, quietly, before looking around the store. There were more than five sick people, but they weren't drawing closer. As if they didn't even HEAR the sound.

But yes, the other five WERE a big issue. They didn't exactly look all that friendly, and were getting closer and closer to the raccon, the fox and... whatever that other thing was? Instinctively, and still unsurely, the fox got out his dagger. He had never really... used it before. But he saw no better time than this. After all, burning everything wouldn't be the most clever thing; he wasn't stupid. He waited for the other mobian's inputs.

Talon was quite lucky. No attention was drawn to him as of that moment. So an easy escape was possible... would he take it?

(probably)

The second after she had snapped out, another had barged through the entrance and very quickly and impressively dislocated the shoulder of the man attacking the child. That snap and his harsh words had caused her to take a step forward to assist, ready for action, but it appeared the small fox was safe due to that raccoon acting faster than she did. Glad that was sorted.

She raised a finger, a deep frown on hidden lips the moment a 'thanks' was uttered to the heroic raccoon, "What in the world is going on here?" she questioned, flicking her wrist towards the group of five, "Why are you all attacking a child? You sshould be asshamed!" The noticeable 'hissing' on syllables was highly evident. As was the flaring of the crimson veiled wings in anger.

They turned. They stared. They began to walk towards them.

As did she, backwards mind you. "A-ah, no need to be so hassty! I'm ssure we can all come to ssome ssort of agreement, no? No need for violence or aggression!" A nervous laugh followed, "H-hah! I ssuppose.. us three will be out of your way then, and no harm done...?" She backed up out of the doorway, into the streets, arms still raised and wings lowering and snapping back against her spine.

Seemed like the small group of people handled the issue after seeing the raccoon take charge of the whole situation, or so he thought.  Talon threw the rutsack around his shoulders, watching the scene and the ill as he adjusted it, making it tight around his shoulder but not too tight.  "Got to make sure I don't lose these." he muttered as he slowly got up and began to creep back over to the door.

He took a glance over and say the ill now surrounded the strange figure, the small fox and the oddly colored raccoon.  He knew he should help... that it would be the right thing to do.  He watched for a good moment before shrugging, quickly making his way back to the doorway he came from.  He grinned a bit, sharp teeth showing as he stepped back outside.  "They can handle it...survival of the fittest anyways." he chuckled.

Ok kid was safe, the woman had snapped to attention, no one at the cash register to stop him for not paying. Things were looking pretty good right, right?. He looked at the young fox beside him"hey, s'no problem kid, don't worry about it..."he muttered, feeling a bit guilty that he'd seriously considered leaving the poor thing to fend for himself. He looked back up to see the 5 people staring at them, just staring, before ambling towards them.

He felt his fur bristle instrictively, There was something unatural about the way these sick people were acting that sent up every single warning flag he had. His companions reacted much the same way, the kids drawing a dagger. Ok so he wasn't completely deffenseless, that was a relief. The woman was already backing out the door, talking in those odd hissy tones as if she could reason with them.

"I hope you got all you needed from the store kid...."he muttered, tightening his grip on his bag of stuff while pulling an explosive from a pouch attached to his belt, he hurled it into the store where it attached itself to one of the pillars a red light flickering to life on it, first blinking slowly then more rapidly.

"Out!"he snapped, grabbing sams arm and hauling him out the door after Storage"Take cover!"he ordered, not waiting to see if Storage did as he hauled Sam into an alley and pressed himself to the wall, not 2 seconds later the explosion went off, shaking the ground with a deafening blow

Indeed, the Chrome was not completely useless. In fact, he was more of a danger to people if he were to use his actual abilities. So he stepped back slowly, away from the weird people... he quickly snagged the sandwhich, pocketing it with his free hand, before suddenly a bomb and ow, ow, ow arm! "A-Ack!"

Suddenly the Chrome was outside, and in an alleyway. Okay, what just happ-BOOM! Saying the Chrome got a shock was an understatement. He gave a yelp of surprise, the explosion penetrating his ears like a needle through a balloon. Like, ow.

He looked dazed, to say the least, holding his ears with both hands. Except where was the knife?
Under the rubble of the store that had just collapsed. And drawn the attention of almost every 'sick' person on the block. Not good. Although, the sick people didn't seem to notice they were in the alley. Being as simple minded as they were due to the illness, or should you say, infection... they were simply staring at the rubble as if it was an examination paper. Maybe they found a carton that said concentrate on it?

Sam wasn't complaining. He wasn't going to. Instead he was in quite a bit of panic. Unsurely he glanced towards the female, then to the raccoon. Both seemed like they'd help him. That was good... "...Uhm... what's going on with the sick people?" He asked.

And they were going to find out soon enough.

"Take cover!" ordered the snapping and alert voice of the raccoon, in which the veiled fruit bat leapt forward and rolled clumsily across the floor instinctively, the explosion shaking the streets as the building collapsed behind her as she collided with the opposite building across the road. Rubble went flying, and a wave of dust flew into the air, partially blinding vision for a few seconds, before fading and revealing the damage done.

The robed figure knelt down, covering her face with the fabric on one arm, and grabbing her fallen yellow lamb mask with the over, slipping it back on neatly before anyone happened to see what was behind it. After that little ordeal, the crimson-adorned bat stood upright, albeit a bit strangely from the way the body was hunched over and limbs seemed to crack and twist in ways they're certainly not supposed to before adjusting to normal with several audible 'cracks'. Looking around, she saw naught but the ruins of a lost building, the sick wandering the streets, and lost lives before her - the arm of one man extended under a mass of brick, limp and pale. The bomber and the child could not be found on the roads, but she did see slight signs of movement within an alleyway, the shadows dancing across the walls as two individuals moved. Ah, so that was where they were.

Considering the diseased seemed to be growing all the more pale, and a few seemingly turning their heads towards her after her sudden collision with the wall, Storage decided it was best to leave. She extended her crimson-veiled wings, giving them a practice flap before soaring into the air vertically, and no later landing lightly and silently upon the fire escape staircase where she originally stood, looking over the streets. It was no longer an alleyway, per-say, considering one of the buildings which occupied it was now reduced to dust. She leapt back, past the railings and past the staircase, landing neatly on the dirt-ridden muddy ground, each footstep leaving a light splashing sound, more so considering she began to run deeper into the darkness, body consumed by the shadows of buildings up ahead.

Outbreak: Station Square [FULL] Empty Re: Outbreak: Station Square [FULL]

A loud boom echoed in Talon's ears and the explosion went off.  All he can feel was his body flying, unable to tell if he was thrown from the force of the blast or if rubble sent him flying. He felt the cold ground on his body as he finally came to a stop, hear the last bit of the building crumbling behind him.  He groaned, rubbing his head as he slowly got up, rubbing his chest. "Ohhh.... that's going to leave a nasty bruise..." he mutter as he slowly stood up.

Talon glanced over to the building, watching the smoke rise from the rumble, the ill groan and flailing as they were trapped under it.  He grumbled but soon his expression changed to shock as he say he was blasted a bit away and now was getting surrounded by the sickly citizens.  A growled escape his lips as he searched for a way to get past them.  A quick look around proved there was nothing and had to do the next best thing.

With a bursting sprint, he battering rammed through several of the sickly, make sure to give them no chance to grab at him.  He scripted over to the alley up ahead, hoping to find a clearing there.
