Illusion of Success

Her classmates left without so much as looking at her. It was probably fitting, as neither of them were properly introduced to one another.

Now Lillith didnt really know where to go. She was never given a schedule.

The hair person from earlier was standing in a hallway and looking at some sort of paper, probably the schedule, before heading off.

Lillith ran up to it. "Uh do you know where you go to get a schedule?"

The hair thing handed her a paper before leaving.

"uhh...thanks?" Lillith looked at the paper.

Five classes, one per day, all of them on the same time, which meant she had the rest of the day for herself.

"What?! One class per day? That's crazy! How in the world am I to learn this fast with such a schedule?! Maybe there are some books I could read? Maybe if I find a teacher?" Lillith walked around tying to find a teacher.

She found the second teacher, a young lady about her height, dunning a long dress.

She wasn't a voidling; she was mortal.

"Oh uh excuse me miss. Does this school have any books? I just want to learn more."

"Oh, of course," she said. "But the learning is supposed to be slow. For the first month at least."

"Why does it have to be slow? I want to know the most I can now. It's better to learn the things now so that I can perfect them later in class. Just lead me to the books please." Lillith gave the teacher a little smile.

The teacher led her to the cellar, where the books were kept. It was very damp and moist, but at least the books were in a safe place.

"Talented mages are rare," she said. "Taking it slow and practising often is how we hope to achieve said talent artificially."

"Hmmm... That is a way. Tell me, out of all these books, what book would be best to read first? Also what's your name? " Lillith said looking at the books.

"Hard to say, what do you want from illision? Defence, offense? Bending reality, breaking someone's mind? Perhaps a little of both?" There was no need for her to give out her name, as her dress had a pin that read 'Hello, my name is Vivian.'

"Bending reality and breaking people's minds sound pretty cool."

"I can teach you and books can too, but it takes practice," she said. "Different minds cannot be broken the same way, but those thinking alike can be."

"I don't think anyone thinks like I do. I'll practice though!"

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a class," she says as she leaves. "Good luck."

"Wait you didn't tell me what book!" Lillith said before staring at the books.

All of them were labeled and had names that had to do with tricks or otherwise. There was the Yellow Book of Riddles, which was actually red, A Guide To Mind Control and MindBreak – The Art of Creating Empty Shells, amongst many others.

"Guide To Mind Control and MindBreak it is I guess." Lillith took the book and started to read it.

At the beginning was a disclaimer. 'Disclaimer - Usage of this book can most definitely put you far behind the line and once you break someone in the way described in this book, they can't be fixed. 

If any of this disturbs you, turn away, close this book and return it back where you found it.

If it doesn't, be prepared to be labeled a criminal.'

"Whatever. " Lillith turned the page.

The authors were listed and each of them had unpronounceable names. A cute picture showed a drawing of a person that had their mind broken, piercing Lillith with its thousand yard stare.
