My oldest character, Storm the Fox Empty My oldest character, Storm the Fox

Post by Storm Wave Mon Apr 25, 2016 8:21 pm

Alright folks, preface time:

-I am in the process of retooling the oldest version of my character, who is the product of my foolhardy youth when I wanted to do all the cool things, and as a result, gave him too much power, and not enough balance.
-This is a work in progress.
-I am open to constructive criticism. In fact, PLEASE give me your two cents. Anything I can do to make this a workable, balanced character without him being totally useless.

Made some minor updates and changes to my character sheet. I added RACIAL FEATS to the list, because foxes have some useful quirks that could be utilized in the future.

Basic Information

Name: Terrance Harper
Nickname(s): Storm
Age: 20
Species: Fox
Gender: Male
Occupation: Computer Technician

Appearance:
Of average height and build for a fox of his age. He has blue eyes and ochre fur, giving way to a pale-apricot muzzle and tail, with charcoal-colored tufts on his cheeks and tail tip. He has black, spiky bangs that give way to red tips, and his hands, feet, ears, and bridge of the nose are dark brown. Tends to wear either a red or blue short-sleeved button-up shirt over dark grey t-shirt or charcoal long-sleeved shirt. Rounds it out with khaki cargo pants or shorts, and a pair of black tennis shoes or sneakers. Though Storm only has one tail, his shadow seems to disagree. When using his technomancy skills, or even when he’s feeling particularly mischievous, he casts a five-tailed shadow.

Personality Traits

Likes:
-Tinkering with electronics and machinery.
-Mechs and giant robots.
-Anything to do with space travel.
-EDM and other digital music styles.
-But also older music from the 70s and 80s

Dislikes:
-People who are jerks just to be jerks
-People who make things difficult just to feel important.
-Zeppelins. Nothing says “I’m an asshole” like a zeppelin. Think about it!
-Faulty resistors

Personality:
Storm is best described in a positive light as jovial, upbeat, helpful, and eager. In a neutral light he is described as curious, impulsive, and mischievous. In a negative light, he’s described as irreverent, sardonic, and glib.

Storm typically tries his best to remain upbeat and happy even when dealing with life’s little inconveniences, which tend to crop up quite a bit at his job. He prides himself on being helpful. After all, any issues with technology are just more opportunities to understand and cultivate his newfound powers, and his customers deserve his best. Even if he is being paid an hourly rate. snicker! He views his technomancy as a gift and an investment. After hours at home, he devotes a significant amount of his time to tinkering with anything he can get his hands on, which is convenient when you have a ready and available source of junk computer parts. As of late though, his pursuits have been cutting into his sleep time, resulting in a reliance on coffee, energy drinks, and any other caffeinated beverage. Great…

The fox is also quite impulsive. If something catches his attention, it’s a sure bet that he’ll devote a bit of time exploring it. He’s always on the lookout for some new gimmicky device to take apart and play with, some new place to experience, or some new and interesting person to give their two cents on something. He also has a mischievous streak. Perhaps it comes with being a fox, or maybe it’s just because his life so far has been a bit dry, but he occasionally delights in pranks, especially those involving the use and abuse of technology.

But even Storm has his limits. You can’t be nice to everyone. Even so, there’s no reason he has to stop smiling, right? Any person or topic he can’t take seriously is usually met with biting, backhanded commentary and half-hearted interest. Even threats to his well-being are usually met with mild to moderate bemusement rather than outright aggression.

Abilities (Combat or otherwise)

Powers:
-Technomancy: Powered by the arcane forces, Storm converts magic into kinetic and electrical energy which he can use to interact with machinery and circuits. Storm is still somewhat new to this power and is discovering just what he can do with it, but so far has found that he can interact with both electrical and physical devices through direct touch, or through the use of traditional magic circles. Storm has also had some success utilizing this power to disassemble, reassemble, modify, and craft new devices. In order to be interacted with, a device first has to be analyzed. Understandably, familiar and mundane technologies become easier to manipulate with practice, while technologies that Storm is less familiar with takes some analysis before they are usable. Also, the more parts and components a device has, the longer it takes to analyze.

-Fox Fire: A useful, but somewhat basic fire attack that Storm claims to be a family trait. A small fireball can be summoned, either from his hands or exhaled directly from the mouth. Up to three can be created at once.

Racial Feats:
-Enhanced hearing: As a fox, Storm has a keen and highly evolved sense of hearing due to his large canine ears. As well as allowing him to detect minute sounds and occasionally eavesdrop on conversations, its also useful in his technomancy for detecting electronic devices based on the high-pitch whine that they tend to make when powered on.

-Night Vision: Foxes are mainly nocturnal creatures, and such have evolved to have natural night vision. This is obviously useful for navigating in dark areas or at night.

Character Strengths:
-Analysis and control: Storm can quickly adapt to new technologies by analyzing them and feeling how they work. He can control or disrupt any familiar device in a ten-meter range, or any device connected directly by cable to his immediate vicinity.
-Firearms proficiency: Storm is quite familiar with firearms, and through analysis, can become familiar with new weapons rather quickly.

Weaknesses:
-Deep Analysis: Unfamiliar and complicated technologies take a long time and a lot of the fox’s energy to analyze and control. Depending on complexity, the fox may also be left vulnerable while delving, especially if forced to use a spell circle.
-Physical devices: Locks, bolts, doors, and other mechanisms that rely on physical interaction rather than electrical take much more concentration and energy to manipulate via his technomancy.
-Out of shape: It's been a while since Storm lead a particularly active lifestyle. As such, he's prone to fatigue and mild to moderate injuries if exerted beyond his endurance. Perhaps a healthy regimen of exercise may change this.

Social information

Positive relations
-Froshana: O wonderous bacon maiden. With your wisdom and kindness you slayed the beast that was my empty stomach.

Negative relations
Nobody.... yet.

Backstory
When he arrived in Station Square, Storm had little more than the clothes on his back, a smartwatch on his wrist, and two duffels and foot locker carrying his life’s possessions. He didn’t speak much about his past, other than that he was born on Sandbar Island, and grew up in a midwestern town in the United Federation. There was an opportunity to join the military in there somewhere, but the fox tends to change the subject on the matter. Apparently, he just got done doing something draining, stressful, and unbelievable, and simply wants a more manageable life from here on out. In spite of his meager bundles and bags, he came with enough cash to land a sizable loft apartment in the city. He managed to impress a local business owner with fancy parlor tricks, and now he’s a part-time jobber computer technician at CompuMax. He managed to elicit some groans and eye-rolls from his coworkers with a few bad jokes, and now he’s slowly becoming a part of the team. He managed to impress a few customers by finding some very difficult hardware issues, and he’s slowly proving his value in the company. In spite of all these things, something still seems off about this newcomer. His motivations seem strange, and in spite of being such an easy-going and outward person, he always seems to keep people at arm’s length. What’s up with this guy, and what’s he doing here? I wonder if these questions will ever be answered.
