Fire and Ice: Opposites attract

Maxus looked to her carefully picking her up. "Let's head home honey" he said smiling as he lay her in the back carefully and slowly driving home.

She curled up, absentmindedly touching her scars on her wrist as she murmured and sighed heavily in the back. "Mother...."

Max looked back to her. He looked forward. He sighed as he pulled in the garage. "Let's get you to bed" he whispered picking her up. Carrying her to bed

She felt someone pick her up. As she was dreaming, she assumed it was her mother, but, the embrace was different, it was more intimate than that.

Whoever it was, she remained still in their arms, breathing softly as she drifted in and out of consciousness; gradually waking from her dream.

He lay her down in bed. His headache returning as the room seemed to sway before him. "What the hell..." He suddenly fell to the floor unconcious, and burning up

Roxanne jolted as she heard a solid thud. She turned over and sat up instantly when she saw Maxus on the floor. Ignoring her numbness from the treatment, she scrambled off the bed to kneel beside him. Her legs were still wobbly.

"Maxus? Maxus, wake up. Maxus, what's happening?" she babbled as she cradled his face.

He didn't respond. But it felt like an intence fever.

She was panicking as she put her hand on his forehead. He was burning up. "Oh, god." she gasped before reaching down to pick him up and place him on the bed.

She stumbled to the bathroom to wet a towel with cold water, before returning to gently place it on his forehead. She pulled the covers up over him before going down to the kitchen to get a glass of water.

Max groaned tossing and turning. "Roxy... Call... Cilia...." He managed to get out. He was in pain.

"OK, OK. OK." She babbled, running to the phone. She dialled instantly and waited. It rung for a while before she heard the crackle of someone picking up. "Hello? Cilia? Is Cilia there? I need her right now." She panted.

"Roxanne what's wrong" Cilia asked sounding worried over the phone. Maxus's groaning grew louder

She was so close to panting. "Its Maxus. He suddenly collapsed and now he's burning up and I don't know what to do!" She panicked, glancing back at Maxus.

Cilia went silent and the phone hung up. There was a rapid knock at the door. "Roxy let me in"

Roxanne thudded down the stairs, yanking the door open for her. She'd started to sob a little which was evident with her red eyes and glistening cheeks. "He's upstairs in the bedroom."

She ran upstairs. "Tell me everything that happened before he collapsed" she said looking him over

Through her haze of panic, she'd struggled to remember at first. "We'd gone to Giro's to remove this device I had planted in my wrist and...he said he gassed him with something to knock him out too because he was apparently freaking out.....and...then when he woke up himself he just drove us back and laid me on the bed. After that he just collapsed. I don't know how it happened." She said.

"Remind me to go visit giro. Cause the stuff he knocked max out with is poisonous to demons" cilia pulled out a vial of a green liquid and made Maxus drink it. "He should be fine once he wakes up. It's a good thing you called"

She sniffed. "He said to call you." She said quietly. "Thank you." She approached the bed to sit beside him, staring with concern. She wiped her eyes.

"Put a cold towel on him till he wakes and call me if he gets worse" cilia said smiling. "I need to head back and put my son to bed"

She was trembling now. "O-ok. Thank you..." She repeated before getting another wet towel to put on his head. She knelt beside the bed, resting her elbows on it as she glanced at him. She sighed.

Maxus stirred an hour later. "Oh my head"

She tried wiping her eyes, but it was so obvious she'd been crying. She leant down to cup his face gently. "Hey. You're okay, you're okay..." Her voice broke as she sniffed.

Maxus could sense her fear and sadness. "I'm so sorry roxy." He said grabbing her hand. "I'm so sorry"

She laughed before it turned into a broken sob. "Christ. Don't apologise, it wasn't your fault." She wiped her eyes again as she tried to compose herself.

Maxus sighed. "It feels like my fault" he said he tried to sit up but winced a little
