THE PREMISE OF SAINT CITY

Tricky hates working with others. He hates talking to other people, and he hates people in general! Still, it is impossible for him to work on his hunt for immortality alone, so he's going to need a few stooges partners to help him along the way. Currently, Tricky has a small apartment in the Mobius/Gaia equivalent of New York, specifically an apartment in the Bronx. We'll call this city... Saint City, out of irony's sake. It's not flattering, but it's on some drug dealer's turf so nobody's stupid enough to come by and steal anything without retribution, and he does his best to pay his rent and protection money on time. He's also got a small workshop that functions as both a repairman's place of business and a front for his shadier ventures.

Those who want to play and be involved with him can either be A: the people he cons into working for him, B: the people he cons into buying his future tech, C: the people who are investigating his cons, or D: any one of the countless ladies that spurns him, has been spurned BY him, or has yet to actually meet him. Either way, they're probably going to hate his guts at some point. If you have any other ideas on what you'd like to play as, feel free to float it by me!

You don't necessarily have to be directly involved with him when you first join, either. This is a city, after all. Maybe you run a business, maybe you're in league with the mafia, or maybe you're helping your parents make ends meet. Good, evil, or any color of gray, your character lives in this city.

Tricky will always keep everyone in the dark, regardless of how close they are to him. You could promise him immortality with endless coupons for free 'massages' down at the local brothel and he'd STILL lie to you day in and out, because that's just the person he is deep down. He's not evil... he's just a prick, and he could care less if that bugs people.

The Mayor of Saint City is Miss Sandra Phalanx, a snake-woman and the first single, unmarried woman to run for office in Saint City. She runs a bipartisan set of policies, and like any politician, she has to do both good and ill to keep her city running. She's more lawful neutral than chaotic neutral, however, so she won't abide by anyone pulling off any serious crimes without making a public appearance on television... She won't really DO anything, but she'll say she's doing something! The actual 'doing' part will fall onto the many officers of the city.

The police are, well... 70 percent of them are all for Mayor Phalanx's tough-on-crime policies. The others are prrretty much corrupt. You've got a lot of cops on the take and a lot of leaks of information going out to crooks and the press. Not every cop iss bad, but being a crooked cop is still a valid option.

You've got your small business owners, your quick marts and seven elevens, pizza joints, drug dens, strip clubs and all sorts of other public venues. Saint City is far away from places like Soleanna and Station Square, with buildings far taller and a focus more on technology and urban development over anything natural or rural. The Chaos Emeralds still exist, but you're going to need a lot of resources to get your hands on even ONE of them, so it's highly unlikely anyone will be able to get them all in one setting. Plus, there's the whole "only a forum administrator can deem whether or not you deserve a chaos emerald" thing, so... Yeah.

Since this is a city filled with people trying to make it on their own, there's bound to be drug addicts, drunkards and people with varying vices all over the place, so if you'd like to give your character a vice to cope with, feel free to. Tricky's vice is the lady-types, of course. Naturally, anything lewd will be implied and excluded from public RP, though you can always PM through the forum or through Discord (whenever that actually gets set up) if you want to actually go through with something like that, though why anyone would want to even entertain the thought of giving into Tricky's advances escapes even me.

Characters are free to come and go from Saint City. Not liking the plot or how your character is being treated, and you don't see them getting treated any better in the future despite all your attempts at trying to make it in Saint City? That's totally fine! Saint City is a crappy place to live! You can have your character move in or out of Saint City as a plot point or an excuse to just get out of the scenario alllll together.

I should also note that time will progress sporadically. Sometimes an hour can pass, sometimes a day, week, or even a month depending on who's doing what and how long something will take. Before I advance any time in the story, I'll be sure to alert everyone with a post and confirm with the group if its alright, but I'll need people to PM rather than post OOC replies so the thread won't get polluted with useless posts like (Sure, go ahead) or anything of that caliber. I know we're dealing with a post-count score and all, but that's no excuse for spamming! I'd prefer having more meaningful input, so when I post that I'll be advancing time, I'll indicate that you'll need to PM me if you have any issues, and if you do, I'll try to take it into consideration.

Also, this is a Medium powered setting! That means while super powers exist, you can't just threaten to destroy buildings or flatten the city under a massive cube of psychic energy. Tricky himself has a lot of future-tech gizmos, but even they have a limit with a battery-recharge required just to use them. This isn't something extreme like my Muscles the Horse character. This is slice-of-life drama with fantasy thrown in. That said, try to get creative! If you wanted to, you COULD blow up a building the good ol' terrorist way, with lots of planning and scheming involved. Maybe your character feels like they want to make society pay and they gather some darker google data on how to cook up a bunch of semtex so they can detonate all the supporting walls that keeps their school from flattening innocent teachers and students, or maybe you just hate a certain species. NEVER TRUST THEM HEDGEHOGS THEY TALK FUNNY.

*coughs* Allegories for racism aside, this is a sort of living campaign. Any kind of person can come out of the city. Just don't expect your character to be safe for very long if you do something absolutely unforgiveable, because chances are... lots of people will be looking for them. Heck, Tricky's got a few hundred people already searching for him in different states, which is why he had to move his operations to Saint City!

Naturally, I have to post last as it's my job to update what's happening around the city by minutes, hours, or days even depending on who's doing what, reacting to all the actions everyone takes. While I don't want people to be left behind because they miss out for a day, I also don't want them to hold everyone else up just because they're waiting for someone to post. So, if someone hasn't posted within a week and your turn comes after them, feel free to skip them.

IF YOU NEED TO BE AWAY FOR A WHILE, PLEASE ALERT ME! You can still have your character active if you outline what you'd like for them to do during your downtime. This isn't a means of being lazy so you can just not RP for a week and tell me "i'd like my character to train for a while but I won't be around to do it." If you can write up your characters actions and describe how they planned to implement them without messing up anyone else's plans while you, the player, are temporarily gone, then I'll gladly comply with you.
If you have any questions or comments, go right ahead and send em!
________________________________________________________________________
RULES
A lot of this stuff is already stated, but here it's all clearly outlined for easier consumption.

GOLDEN RULE: KEEP OOC TO PMS OR AT THE VERY LEAST THE DISCUSSION THREAD

I realize that sometimes, things can be confusing in life, and that's fine! Sometimes, you'll need to seek answers to those confusing things so you can feel better about your next course of action. That's totes okay! But please, don't post any OOC in the RP thread. If you PM me directly, I guarantee I'll respond! If you post in the discussion thread, I'll guarantee 90% I'll respond, but not as much as I'll guarantee a response through PMs!

1: Stay Active! I'm extending the Time Limit for posting to 7 days instead of 2 days, but I still expect everyone to at least keep active in the city!

2: If you can't come up with anything to do when your turn comes, please message me and alert me so I don't count it as a strike against you. If you miss your chance to post two turns in a row without letting me know about any incidents or if you're having some kind of writers block, you will be ejected from Saint City's canon!

3: Discuss Major Plot Points with me. Look, I know guys? I KNOW. You want to make things interesting, you want your character to shine the most. I've BEEN there. I'm STILL there, but considering this is going to be a living campaign where your actions will affect everyone else, NPC and Playable Characters, make sure to talk things out with me! Not everything you do is important to discuss, but chances are, if you're planning to shoot someone, rob a place, crash a car into a building or kill someone, or ANYTHING ELSE drastic, float it by me first! I'm not necessarily going to tell you NO, but I do want to be prepared so I can at get ready to set up the dominoes for you to knock down.

4: No one-line posts. I know that brevity is the soul of wit, but it's not the heart of roleplay. If you're looking for a cheap way of building up your post count or you're just feeling lazy, I'm afraid your post won't count. In certain situations, I'll allow a brief response if there's not much else you can do at the time, but I'm going to do my best to move things along so other players aren't kept waiting.

5: Mid-Level Powers only! The power scale goes from SatAM Snively to Super Sonic, and we're about halfway on that scale! No Gods, Demons, Outer-Dimensional Space Giants or anything that's too OP. Gadgets, Mild-Telekinesis/Telepathy, enhanced strength, enhanced speed, and low-level spell casting is allowed. If I think something is too "Out There" to use in Saint City, I'll alert you to it.

TURN ORDER

THE TURN ORDER IS AS FOLLOWS:

1: THE HUNTER
2: THE RED BLUR
3: SEA BUNNY

AT THE END OF EVERY TURN ROTATION, I WILL POST TO UPDATE ALL CHARACTERS. EACH PLAYER HAS A 7 DAY TIME LIMIT TO POST WHEN THEIR TURN COMES BEFORE THEY ARE SKIPPED. 1 POST PER CHARACTER. CAPS LOCK ALERT ENDS HERE.

Make sure you leave nothing to chance... Things will ALWAYS be happening, so even if you're going through something dire, you might not get the best reaction if you waited too long! I'd like to encourage everyone to gather all their thoughts on what they want their characters to do before they post. If you've forgotten something, please edit your post and alert me through PM if it's crucial that everyone realizes you edited your post, in case they post immediately before you can change what you've written. Don't expect to go back and just CHANGE your canon, though, even if you might not like what happens to your character afterwards. ALL actions will have a consequence, even if you decided to take NO action. You're in a city, and it won't sit still just because YOU are sitting still.

IF you happen to miss your turn twice without messaging me about any particular reasons for missing out, I'm just going to assume you've lost interest and write your character out of the story... You can still come back after that, but you've already got 2 strikes, so if you miss 1 turn without messaging me after that, I'll perma-ban your character aaannnnd probably write something horrible happening to them in the City's canon. I can't kill your character in the canon area, but you had best believe that I will make a huge example of them and eject them embarrassingly and degradingly from Saint City! So please, keep on top of posting and let me know if you have to disappear, m'kay?

Good question! Also, don't fret about using parenthesis, this is just the plotting stage.

The point is, I want people to be creative, not meta-gamey.

Woah, yeah! This sounds like a really good RP idea! I love everything about it! I'd definitely like to join in on this. I'm surprised more people haven't taken interest in this yet, but I'm totally on board!

This seems like a big RP, so I can see that more people are needed before it takes off. In the meantime, I'll be figuring out what character to use, and how they'll be involved in the whoe thing.

Post by Veteranoftheconsolewars Mon Mar 06, 2017 10:04 pm

Well, it might help if I actually make a thread for the actual scenario, coupled with a link leading to the plotting section so people can understand the rules of engagement. I'll be getting on that soon, along with my other character's thread, but I'm still settling into the forum and gauging all the rules and people's interests as a whole. Heck, I almost went ahead and posted in the Forum Games section without asking for permission first, so you KNOW I still need a little tempering. xD I'm just happy I'm so... enthusiastic for it, since I long believed that such youthful energy was gone. Good to see my inner noob is still alive and kicking... But I digress!

If you're at all interested in joining, feel free to PM me about any questions regarding your role in Saint City! I'll be posting it up soon!

Oooh, this looks interesting! I think I might go with the third option, though. Mind if I use two characters in the RP?

As long as you can operate them both fairly and efficiently without having one interact with the other too much to give them an unfair advantage, sure.

Such a heartwarming moment. ;;; Mr. Vet has been reunited with his inner noob, and has rekindled his youthful energy. It brings a tear to my eye. I think I need a tissue... ;;

Haha, anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the post. I'll probably PM you sometime soon in order to discuss my character's involvement, and see if what I have in mind is good for the RP.
Aah, I'm already getting excited!

Hey Veteran? How do you feel like cannon characters joining in on this idea? (Particularly Shadow since he's the one I'm using.)

I don't particularly mind. Not sure how much Shadow would care about living a life in the city, especially since this is the Gaia continuity and he's more content with working with Rouge and GUN as some sort of agent, but maybe he gets his downtime here when he's not on super secret missions to prevent the world from being destroyed?

He wouldn't live there, of course. I don't think Shadow, or any of the cannon characters, really settle in one spot. Unless you could Tail's Workshop. The one way I can see Shadow getting involved with anything really is if there's some kind of mission involved. Maybe he's been called to investigate a crime. Maybe he's looking for the Chaos Emeralds and he feels like this is a possible location. Or maybe this is just a stop and he's on his way to another location. However, regardless of the outcome, I'm wanting Shadow and Tricky to meet because of his whole thing with wanting immortality and Shadow being immortal and such. What do you think?

I'm sure Tricky would be perplexed, frustrated, and intrigued by Shadow's immortality.
