Is the official character listing up to date?

I was told a long time ago that whoever was the founder went MIA or something, putting a limit on what the remaining mods can do as far as major changes. This site has been going forever, it seems. I can't help but wonder the state of it. I can imagine even more mods have left in that time. The person who posted it hasn't been seen since 2017. I also know that the last edits on the official character listing were made in 2015. 

So what's the state of applying for a canon? Is it possible? Do most people use Non-Canon?

From what I've seen, most people like to use their own ocs to roleplay, instead of the actual canon characters. But I'm still a fairly new person on the forum, so maybe an admin could give you some more info.

Currently, ThePromiseIncarnate is in control of Sonic, as far as I'm aware, and I'm pretty sure they have plans to use Sonic in an upcoming RP, but It has been a long time since they applied and it has been a long time of haitus until their very recent return

The above information is all correct! Most people use OCs, but you're free to apply for a canon character. Only two are taken at the moment (with the person controlling Silver not having been around for a while, too).

Also, don't believe all the dates you see - the canon character listing has been edited since 2015 (Pyro has received rights to RP Sonic last year, I believe), it's just that the edits haven't been done by Uncanny-Illustrator himself, since he's no longer admin.

Due to two of the staff being in the middle of finals in school at the moment (myself included) it's likely we'll take a while before grading your application, which we're sorry for in advance, but it won't be forgotten. Although it should be noted, if you do want to apply for anyone... activity of a member is taken into consideration in the process. If someone's never online and only appears every few months, it's more likely we'll decide they're unreliable and not accept the application.

Noted. When I have more time to get involved with a canon I just may try out. I don't at the moment. My work schedule is changing too much.
