i am super excited for this game! i think the majority of you are to! but how much? ho excited are you? witch version are you getting PC,PS4,Xbox one??? Are you getting it opening day? 

For me, i plan to get it opening day for PC.

I'm pretty excited for it myself. Granted, I'm one of those nostalgic people who loves good pixel art, and I was raised on the Genesis, so it's natural for me to want this.

I'm just hoping the classic Sonic physics are built into the game. The old 2D games had a certain momentum to them that the 3D games just haven't seemed to replicate.

Hmmm... After watching the trailer, I have to say it looks interesting. Looks like it might have an 'old school' feel to it as well. I think it'll definitely be a game I'll be interested in getting. I won't rush out to get it when it's released though.

I'm just a little more interested in seeing how quickly the Sonic community is going to turn on this game once more is revealed about it or they finally get their hands on it. I can already picture torches being lit in response to the 'drop dash'.

Something I noticed with the map layouts is that they look like a mix of sonic CD and sonic 2. witch to be completely honest, I don't like sonic 2 that much, compared to the other original sonic games. There is just something about sonic 2 that is just missing....

I feel like this year, SEGA and Sonic Team are basically screaming "SORRY, SORRY, SO SORRY" for Sonic Boom, and maybe a little bit of Lost World.
Given that both Project Sonic 2017 and Sonic Mania are technically anniversary games, and they are being released a year 'late', I have hope that SEGA did this to make sure both games have good time to complete them. 

My opinions on Sonic Mania... I absolutely freaking love the idea. Not necessarily because I was a big fan of the classics - I grew up playing them, but that's not me praising them. I played them so much I actually kind of got tired of them. What I am excited for, is Sonic Mania as it's own game. I would say "the designers", but that doesn't make much sense.
I find it notable that fan creation and indie titles tend to be better than mainstream or Triple A games, and given SEGA literally just hired a group of fans who had enough love for the games that they wanted to make their own and that this game most likely had a budget behind it as opposed to most actual fan games, I have no doubt in my mind that Sonic Mania is going to be an amazing game.
When I saw that Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles were all playable, I smiled a little, and the music that's been leaked so far is freaking AWESOME. The only thing I'm actually a bit worried about, is the Drop Dash. When I first saw the trailers, it looked more like a bug to me, I didn't know it'd be a feature. Then, they described it as a replacement to Sonic's insta-shield.
No, I'm not saying I'm against the idea of the drop-dash on any level, and if I was, it wouldn't be for the reason you are probably thinking. Hear me out on this one:

In Sonic 3 and Knuckles, the three playable characters each got a special ability. Tails, for the first time, had flight controlled by the player and Knuckles, the new guy at the time, could glide(and as an extension to his glide, climb up walls). Sonic was the speedy character, and he had no special jump ability. What did they give him? A special ability to deal with enemies - he could unleash energy around him temporarily to protect him from damage. The insta-shield was interesting, and cool to pull off. It did not launch you to the ground.
In Sonic Adventure, you get the homing attack. A way to deal with enemies since he was the main speedy character. It did not send you to the ground. 
Sonic Unleashed - depending on your version, the buttons were awkward, but it DID include a stomp ability. This was not your double jump, this was on its own button. In other words, this double jump did not send you to the ground. 
Sonic Colors, the one game to include a pure double-jump(excluding Sonic Lost World, though I haven't played it myself). While the homing attack took its place when near an enemy, to my memory, it's the result of pressing your jump button twice to gain extra height from your jump. By its very nature, it does not launch you to the ground...

So why the hell does Sonic Mania have a double-jump ability that launches you at the ground? I've gotten into a habit of pressing the jump button twice, almost spamming it at times because of older games. When near an enemy, it rewarded you. When dealing with tight or difficult jumps, it rewarded you. This may help with speedrunning and keeping up speed, but when I get this game on PC, I don't want to launch myself into a pit 5 times in a row by accident because I've been playing Knuckles for a while and forgot that Sonic can't glide. THINGS OF NOTE:
1. The graphics look smooth and crispy!
2. Sonic And Tails option chosen.
3. Lots of ziplines in green hill zone.
4. The elemental shields from Sonic 3 & Knuckles are back.
5. Apparently, Sonic still does special shield attacks for his miadair action, just like in Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
6. AHAHA! Take that, stupid spinning spike log platform! Your existence is meaningless! Certain Shields interact with certain objects in the level, such as the flame shield burning up minor annoyances for you.
6. Sonic 3 Extra Life Jingle.
7. The lightning shield is seen in video, but the player doesn't grab it.
8. Those fish that jump out of the rivers at you now swim horizontally in pools of water.
9. The drop dash is, of course, implemented in video.

I'm too lazy to timestamp it, but this made me happy.

Wow. It looks like it'll be a fun game. I can already hear the massive fan base backlash though as is the norm for every Sonic game nowadays though.

I do wish that they weren't just recycling old levels again. We don't need another Green Hill zone remake, but that isn't a major concern.

It's interesting to see elements from Sonic 1, 2, 3, CD a couple of Advance games tossed together into one game. It feels like they want to emphasize more exploration with shields interacting with environment.

I look forward to seeing more.

ALSO! Unprecedented news involving any Sonic game. Mania is being delayed until Summer 2017.

Just take a moment to take that in. A Sonic the Hedgehog game that's being delayed, rather than rushed for the deadline.

Revamping is nice. But I wish they'd focus on new content. Hopefully they're going to have some more zones than what are shown, otherwise I'm going to worried.

(Then again it's a cheaply priced game as far as I know, so I guess I can't complain too much)

Sonic Mania as a whole is a wonderful idea. Though I just wish that they'd have released a 100% modern title alongside of it.

You have the classic fans pleased, and the modern fans pleased in that case. Absolutely perfect. Sort of like a certain other fanbase I know of... hmm... (METROID)

Tails' Channel discusses some of the reveals for Sonic Mania made at SDCC. These features revealed are:

-The plot of the game, being that a Dejected Eggman has retired after the events of S3&K, and his robots have gone rogue and seek their revenge on Sonic & Friends.

-Opening Animation similar to Sonic CD, animated by Tyson Hesse

-3D Special stages for collecting the emeralds, similar to Sonic CD and S3&K

-And finally, the overall length of the game has been compared to S3&K



EDIT: Whoops! looks like Tails Channel made a mistake about the plot of the game. The robots going Rogue was an old concept by Christian Whitehead during early development. More deets in the video below.

Truly one of the best sonic games in years. Takes everything the old Genesis classics did and makes them smooth, new, and oh-so colourful and unique. The music is also fantastic.

I thought the game was pretty fun. They were looking to make a game very much like the original ones in the series and they accomplished that.

I thought the game was fairly short and easy, but that may just be because I have a lot of experience in Sonic games. I will say finding special stages can be a challenge if you're more focused on speed, and beating them gets pretty difficult at points. Pretty neat nod to Sonic CD with them though.

I've only played through the game once, getting the normal end with Sonic, and then replaying just enough to get the true ending. So I haven't seen any of the Knuckles or Tails stuff, assuming Tails does anything different.

The only thing that disappointed me in the game, was the true final boss. Didn't really like it and it left a bad taste in my mouth... It's pretty much the reason I haven't gone back to it for another playthrough. I'm sure I'll get over it at some point though.
