Mud. Rain and Mud. Concrete and Rebar.
A flash illuminated the sky and the distant call of thunder made its way, rolling across the valley. The rain of the oncoming storm had already begun to fall, whetting the already marsh-like soil that was the main street of the town, large lumps of concrete and long-rusted rebar stuck up out of the tracks that had been left behind by whatever vehicles had driven along its pond-like surface.

The storm had picked the darkest hour to arrive. The Hour of Reaping.

It was during this hour, that the mobians of the 15 zones faced their greatest nightmare, their ultimate and darkest fate. All residents were dragged from their homes, on their knees if so needed, and thrown into what on this day was wet earth, it was there in that terrible courtyard that they would be judged.

Names. Names were drawn.

They called it The Penance. The great reckoning, it took place every 3 years, all names were placed in a system, then from that system 4 names would be drawn from each zone. It was these unfortunate 60 that were entered into The Penance.
The Penance tore families apart, those who had their names drawn on that grave day of atonement were ripped from their homes, shuttled off to factories to have a grisly work done. Robots, terrible Mechas, would be created in those 60's image. Giant machines built for war would be fashioned after the entrant's own self, depending on what zone their hailed from.

Zone 1:
The Crop Zone, expanses of green, tainted by the foulness of slavery. The residents of this Zone, forced to grow crops to feed the ever growing hordes of rich that took joy in The Penance.
Mechas fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this zone are laden with large gripping tools to take down opposing Mechas.

Zone 2:
The Meat Zone, expanses of dark, murky fields, grazed on by livestock better fed than most of the Zone's residents.
Mechas fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this zone are laden with powerful bladed weaponry, designed to tear through the less fortunate mechas.

Zone 3:
The Water Zone, thousands of kilometres of coastline and lakes, lined with plant after plant used to extract whatever pure water can be extracted from their sources to hydrate whatever thirst is brought up by the greedy.
Mechas fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this zone are laden with few tools, but thick armour, equipped with several empty hardpoints and a powerful welder, designed to salvage weapons from other mechas.

Zone 4:
The Electricity Zone, almost entirely hidden by the thick clouds of black smoke, choking all but the hardiest of residents within the Zone, hundreds of kilometres of power plants expanding deep into the earth's crust.
Mechas fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this zone are gifted with a short stun-grip, capable of putting any other medium mech out of action for a few seconds, and strong fists to take advantage of any opening that provides itself.

 Zone 5:
The Network Zone, hundreds of acres of underground facilities, deep into the earth's crust, filled with thousands upon thousands of relays and servers to keep the ravenous hordes of rich entertained within the nation's capitol.
Mecha's fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this zone are laden with short range jammers, capable of disrupting any communications between mechas within their radius, and also with drives capable of corrupting enemy mechas, causing them to malfunction, sometiems fatally.

Zone 6:
The Fabrics Zone, factories, hundreds of factories, long lines of rollers and machines churning out the fabric used in all works from the flamboyant dress of the rich to the rags worn by even the residents of this zone.
Mecha's fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this zone are equipped with the lightest armour of all, but have extreme speed and are given enough secondary firepower to hold their own... sometimes

Zone 7:
The Sanitation Zone, directly next to the Water Zone, kilometres of plants, filtering all waste and refuse of the Capitol back into useful resources, hundreds of incinerators and hundreds of sewage plants.
Mechas fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this zone are laden with powerful flamethrowers, capable of melting through light armour and even shorting circuits or lives held within heavier mechs.

Zone 8 & 9:
The Steelwork Zones, seperated by the entire expanse of the nation, Zone 8 and 9 both produce the steel that forges all mechas and industries in the other Zones.
Mechas fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this zone are usually equipped with light firearms, but can quite often have extras given to them.
Zone 10:
The Copper Zone, hidden in the far north of the nation, deep quarries dug into the earth, hundreds of kilometres of mines to extract what little of the precious resource is left.
Mechas fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this zone are usually equipped with heavy firearms, but can quite often have extras given to them.

Zone 11:
The Aluminium Zone, most residents are familiar with the seal of Zone 11, the aluminium-canned rations being the only thing that most will eat for months.
Mecha's fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this zone will always have a backup mecha hidden within, a second mecha should the first be destroyed in combat.

Zone 12:
The Gold Zone, almost completely dry and definitely not familiar to any zone other than it's own, the Gold Zone feeds the ever-growing greed for luxury within the Capitol.
Mechas fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this Zone are laden with heavy spotlights to blind opposing mecha drivers.

Zone 13:
The Coal Zone, working in tandem with the Electricity Zone, the residents within this zone have a 100% unnatural mortality rate, most dying to cave-ins or debris-inhalation.
Mechas fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this Zone are equipped, much like the Sanitation Zone, with flamethrowers, however slightly different in design and functionality.

Zone 14:
The Transportation Zone, closest to the Capitol of all Zones, and completely encircling the city, the residents of this Zone live beneath large trams, hauling the produce of all other zones within the nation.
Mechas fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this zone are capable of achieving symbiosis with other mechas, incorporating the design of fallen mechs into their own and making them ever-more powerful.

 Zone 15:
The Masonry Zone, less of a zone and more of a refuse pile, all stone dug out from the other mining Zones are brought here to be processed, and used to repair and construct the ever-growing number of Penance Arenas
Mechas fashioned after 'non-gifted' entrants within this Zone are laden with powerful hydraulic pistons incorporated into most appendages, acting as power-fists in a close encounter

However, even before the beginning of this terrible dystopia that became of earth, there were mobians, who, in their own right, were heroes. Mobians who wielded powers and during the great turn-over that sparked the creation of the 15 zones, many of those Mobians fought back. The leader of what would become the new nation, piloting his own mecha, quelled the rebellion in one foul night.

It was not all mobians endowed with powers that fought back, and even fewer were killed in the quelling, many were assigned to Zones where their powers would benefit the nation most. Electricity Wielding Mobians to Zone 4, Water-proficient Mobians to Zone 3, and so on.

When it is one of these mobians, or their descendants, that have their names drawn forth during the time of The Penance, they are given their own special mechs, designed specifically to mimic their own unique powers.
And so, it is on this dreaded day that the Penance takes place, the sirens ring from within the courtyard, signalling for residents to prepare. Head to the courtyard peacefully, or be prepared to have their door assailed and by dragged to the courtyard by force.

So basically, I've drawn a lot of inspiration from Hunger Games and from MechWarrior, but you needn't have a big understanding of either since it's pretty easilly summed up by:

People get taken from their homes to fight in a giant arena in mech suits.

Anyone interested just drop a comment down below and we can discuss some deets. Please keep in mind that this will be a non-cannon RP
