Beginning of a Journey

"Oh yeah. Kinda the same, just on a stick with other stuff," Reena said with a nod, "Guess it just depends on how you want your meat."

"Hmmm... so long as I can eat it, I don't really have a preference." Wolf replies.

"Well, you'll have to pick one to order when the waitress comes back, though," Reena pointed out.

"Oh... um, what do you think I should get?" he asks.

"I dunno," Reena admitted with a shrug of her shoulders. "I'm still trying to decide, too."
About this time, the waitress returned. She set down the drinks they had ordered on the table and checked to see how they were doing.
Reena assured her that all was well, but they still needed a couple of minutes to decide what to have.
The waitress nodded and told them she would be back soon to see if they were ready.
As the waitress left, Reena rubbed her chin thoughtfully with one paw.
"Hm... I dunno, we had sandwiches earlier so maybe something less sandwich-y would be good. I'm thinking of just having the steak with some fries," she said.

"Hmmm... maybe I'll have that too." Wolf says, "It would be easy to order at least."

"Sure," Reena nodded, "Can't go wrong with steak!"
She reached over to the glass set in front of her, taking a drink of the soda she'd ordered.

"We'll see soon enough I guess." Wolf replies.

He closes his menu and sets it down on the table.

"What, have you ever had a bad steak in your life?" Reena asked, smirking slightly.

"I don't think so. But I usually make my own food." he replies, "I know my quality."

"Well, I don't figure they'd be advertising steaks here if they weren't good," Reena pointed out.
About this time, the waitress returned and Reena confirmed that they were ready to order. The Klee Kai placed her order of a steak and some french fries, then turned to Wolf to let him order as well. The waitress scribbled down their orders, then turned and left again, leaving the two alone again.

Wolf also ordered a steak as well, but with a side of roasted vegetables as well.

"So any idea what you're going to do here in town tomorrow?" he asks Reena.

"Not really," the canine replied, looking over at him. "I didn't really see a whole lot to do here, but I probably won't just get up in the morning and jump on another train. I'll have a look around, at least." She tipped her head to one side. "And you?" she asked, "What are your plans?"

"Don't know really." he replies, "I've considered that I might just keep going from here in the morning. Keep going north."

"Doesn't sound like a bad plan," Reena noted, "At least you covered a lot of distance today."

"Well, that was all thanks to you." he says, "You've done so much for me today."

"Bah, it's nothin'," Reena insisted with a smile, "And it never hurts to rack up some karma either, I guess." She picked up her drink and took another sip from it.

"Well, if you say so." Wolf replies, "It would be nice if I could return the favour to you somehow. But I don't really have anything to offer that I could part with."

Reena shook her head a bit. "That's okay. I just enjoy having somebody to travel with me, really," she admitted, "I tend to travel by myself a lot so it's always nice to have someone to talk to."

"Yes... I suppose that is true." Wolf replies.

He glances away from Reena and down towards the tabletop between them.

Reena fell silent as well now. She took out her phone after a couple of moments, looking over some words there on the screen. She slid her thumb across the screen once, then started tapping away with both thumbs.

Wolf glances around the room a little while later. He was thinking about what Reena had just said and how it related to him during this last day. He wondered if he might be missing out on something.

Reena said nothing more for the time being either. She spent about a minute looking through things on her phone before finally turning it off and setting it down on the table.
While they waited for their meals, Reena still made conversation off and on with Wolf. Finally, though, the food arrived and the Klee Kai eyed her plate eagerly as the waitress set it down before her. She thanked the waitress and waited for her to walk away, then picked up her phone and activated the camera on it to take a photo of the meal.
"Oh man, this is gonna taste so good," she commented.

Wolf watches as their food is brought to the table. He thanks the waitress as well and then sniffs his food slightly.

"Well, it does smell pretty good." he replies.

"Mmhmm!" came the simple reply.
Reena got her photo, then turned off her phone and set it aside again. She picked up a french fry and ate it before turning her attention to the steak itself and starting to eat.
