Open RP or Non-Canon?

Ok, I'm a little confused on what to do with roleplay. I see some great ideas in the non-canon section, but does the rp take place in the open rp or would you just start?

Non-canon RPs are done in Non-canon.

Basically, Non-canon RPs are considered not to be true to the site's canon, so everything that happens there is nonexistent, and so they're separated from Open and Closed RPs which are canon for the site!
It's mainly for post-apocalyptic RPs or RPs for fun, really.

But would I just start at random? And anyone interested can just join in?

Yes! You can start an RP in open, closed, Non-canon anytime you want and you don't need a topic in Plotting section, although some people find it useful to plan ahead. But feel free to just post, though you might need to wait for replies!

Edit: And if in Open RPs you get say, 5 people, and think it's enough, you can always say "that's enough" and not accept more people. An admin can move it to closed, and all that stuff. Just ask!
