Mae Mink and Myron Marten Empty Mae Mink and Myron Marten

Post by Seraph Fri Mar 24, 2017 10:42 pm

Name: Mae
Nicknames: Mae-mae (by her mother), Scrappy
Age: 22 (August 2nd)
Species: Mink (though her species is used as a last name; it’s “Mae Mink” as opposed to “Mae the Mink”)
Gender: Female
Occupation: Treasure-hunter of sorts, occasionally does odd jobs

Appearance: Mae has a toned, athletic build. Her fur is a light red-brown, and her muzzle and the ruff of fur on her chest are a light tan color. Her black hair is always messy and wild, held down by the pair of goggles she wears on the top of her head. Her fingerless gloves are black and red to match her shorts and boots. She leaves her nails long to help her grip into soft surfaces and tree bark. Her dark green socks match her eyes of the same color.

Mako - Mae Mink and Myron Marten Makoref

Personality traits

Likes:
-Treasure-hunting, spelunking; exploring in general
-Swimming
-Fishing
-The outdoors
-Collecting goggles, oddly enough; though she really only wears the same pair she always has

Dislikes:
-Anyone who preys on the weak
-Having to “dress up”
-Cooking, cleaning, etc.; really anything domestic
-Humans

Personality:
Mae can’t stay in the same place for very long. She always feels there’s something out there for her to discover, and she’s always ready to find it. Her energy, enthusiasm and curiosity combine into a potent sense of wanderlust, and her determined nature can keep her out of the house for days. She loves the thrill of finding something intriguing, but the search is the most fun. The money she gets from selling what she finds isn’t too shabby either. Of course, she’d probably enjoy it a lot more if she didn’t always blow it all in half a day.

Mae can be a bit rough around the edges, but she has a good heart.. most of the time. She’s not above lying or cheating the rich. She can be ignorant of others’ feelings at times, and is usually quite blunt. However, she can’t stand to see someone bullied. She’ll go out of her way to confront someone that picks on the weak, but she tends to get annoyed at those who can defend themselves but choose not to.

Despite her brash nature, she’s normally friendly and easy to start a conversation with, as long as things don’t get too touchy. And she loves to have a good laugh. She will avoid contact with humans, though. Or she’ll give them dirty looks and possibly start a fight. Either one.

At her core, Mae is a playful, adventurous, and carefree girl with (mostly) good intentions. She loves her family and would drop everything to help them if they need her.

Combat traits

Powers:
While lacking any supernatural abilities or extraordinary powers, Mae is quite athletic and a skilled swimmer. She can hold her breath longer than most, and she’s developed a keen eye for spotting objects of interest.

Strengths:
-Determined. Once Mae sets her mind to something, she refuses to give up; this can be a double-edged sword, though.
-Confident. Mae certainly isn’t lacking in confidence. Very rarely has she ever doubted herself or her abilities, but again, this isn’t always beneficial.
-Brave. Craving adventure and having no tolerance for bullies, Mae doesn’t have much fear or regard for danger.
-Agile/athletic. Her exploring has left her in peak physical condition. She’s stronger than average and is rather agile.

Weaknesses:
-Stubborn. Her determination tends to go too far. She doesn’t know when to quit, and is set firmly in her views. It’s because of this that she won’t take certain advice to heart when she should.
-Overconfident. This is where her confidence comes back to bite her. She overestimates herself and can sometimes land herself in situations that are less than ideal. She can come across as arrogant at times.
-Reckless. She charges into things without considering the consequences and often without a plan. Her bravado and attitude can get herself and others in trouble.
-Unsubtle. Though not always a bad thing, she can be very blunt. This doesn’t mean that she’s honest. It’s more that she’s ignorant to the art of persuading others with words, and any “sugar-coating” she supposedly does is simply her underestimating the severity of things. She doesn’t intend it, but because of her frank nature, she can be downright inconsiderate of others’ feelings.

Social information

Positive relations
-Penelope & Ollie Mink, her mother and father: Mae’s closer to her mother, but she loves both her parents and is sure to maintain contact with them. Her mother, Penelope, has always held a fear and distrust of humans. Mae inherited this prejudice.
-Flynn & Rory Mink, her brothers: Mae’s playful older brothers, though they’ve mellowed out over time. Something Mae never managed to do. They’re both off studying in college, but Mae loves them to bits and frequently writes to them. Flynn’s the oldest, but they’re only about two years apart in age.
-Mako, her Chao: Mae grew up right beside a Chao garden, and because of this, she’s been familiar with and held a fondness for the creatures her whole life. When she was nine, she was given her very own Chao, Mako. She quickly became attached and still has him to this day. She takes him with her everywhere. He helps her by swimming/flying into small areas to retrieve things she otherwise wouldn’t be able to reach.
-Myron Marten, her cousin: Mae is protective of Myron, thinking of him as the younger sibling she never had. It’s because of this that she’s tried to toughen him up, to get him to defend himself. It seems to have only made things worse, though.

History
With Mae having been born the only daughter alongside two older, rambunctious brothers, her mother’s hopes for a gentle, more feminine child were doomed from the start. From the time she could just toddle around, she was roughhousing and playing around with her brothers. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and Mae admired her siblings immensely. She would watch their favorite movies and cartoons with them. She would try to copy them while they were playing various sports, and she’d ask them to train her afterwards. The boys didn’t mind, however. They enjoyed bragging about how they had a “cool” sister.

At first, her mother would disapprove of her tomboyish nature, and she would encourage her to pursue more “girly” activities. After two boys, Penelope had wanted a child she could relate to more, go shopping with. Though she would never admit it, she’d been disappointed in the way her daughter was growing up. But as Mae entered her teen years, her mother started to become more accepting of her daughter. Penelope worked to repair the distance that had grown between them, and the two grew much closer.

While Mae certainly looked up to her father, she didn’t have as close of a relationship with him as she does with her mother. His job required him to be away for days, sometimes even over a week, and the longest he ever stayed home was four days. He was always kind and brought them gifts from his trips, but the children never had the chance to bond with him as closely as they did their mother.

At age nineteen, Mae’s adventurous nature won out, and she decided it was time she headed out on her own. Her mother protested but soon realized it was pointless. The more Penelope told her daughter to stay, the more determined Mae became to leave. Instead, she ended up helping her. She helped her arrange travel plans and gave her money to start out. The only condition was that Mae would call and write her as often as she could, to which Mae gladly agreed. It wasn’t long before Mae was settled in her new home: a tiny, riverside house, set in a small valley just outside the forest.

She started exploring the area right away, and she frequently travels to the city to sell the things she’s found. Unfortunately, her habit of burning through money often leaves her with no savings. She occasionally has to work odd jobs when she’s in need of funds because of this.

Name: Myron
Nicknames: Cuz (by Mae)
Age: 19 (December 31st)
Species: Yellow-throated marten (though, like with Mae, he goes by “Myron Marten”)
Gender: Male
Occupation: none; he stays with Mae and keeps the house for her

Appearance: Myron has pale yellow fur, and the tufts on his elbows, his muzzle, and the ruff on his chest are a light off-grey. He has wavy, blue-black hair that matches his tail and the fur below his knees. His eyes are large and black, and he wears brown gloves, matching his boots. His shorts are a light grey.

Mercury - Mae Mink and Myron Marten Mercury

Personality traits

Likes:
-Chao (and taking care of them)
-Reading
-Cooking

Dislikes:
-Attention paid to him by anyone he doesn’t know well, which is everyone but Mae
-Having to talk at all
-Conflict of any kind
-Mae’s cooking (It’s truly awful. She burns water.)

Personality:
Myron is a shy, quiet, and often anxious young man. He’s over-critical of himself, and avoids social contact whenever he can, thanks to a fear of making mistakes. He’s mute by choice and rarely ever speaks, even to Mae, for this same reason.

He’s compassionate and cares for the welfare of others, but he’s too afraid to approach anyone. He often thinks they’d be better off without his interference, anyway.

He loves Chao, however, and he’s not afraid of them like he is people. He enjoys caring for his own Chao and even Mae’s. Sometimes he’ll even speak to them when no one is around.

Combat traits

Powers:
Myron is very sensitive to the emotions and auras of others. The auras of those who possess no supernatural abilities or energies aren’t obvious to him, but when encountering someone with gifts of the non-mundane nature, it’s apparent. Not knowing what it is he’s sensing, he becomes quite frightened in these situations.

Strengths:
-Perfectionist. This probably does him more harm than good, but it has its advantages. While he usually takes longer to do things, he always puts his all into his tasks. The end result is something done much better than it would’ve been done by someone doing it faster.
-Thoughtful. Myron is particularly in-tune to others’ emotions. He’s compassionate and kind-hearted, and if he could manage to get over his fear of interaction, he would be great at comforting others.
-Quiet. Thanks to his aversion to attention, he’s learned how to go unnoticed when out in public, and his unassuming appearance certainly helps. Unfortunately, Mae and even Mercury tend to ruin this for him.

Weaknesses:
-Perfectionist. Myron tends to obsess over his mistakes, and he’s rarely satisfied with his work.
-Sensitive. His sensitivity to others’ emotions isn’t always a good thing. He doesn’t like upsetting others, and any discontent he senses he often blames himself for. He also struggles with recognizing sarcasm at times, and takes things to heart that were meant in jest.
-Timid. Myron finds it very difficult to approach those he doesn’t know, even if it’s for important reasons. He will often stand around idly, trying to work up the nerve to speak, but by then the person has left.
-Weak. Myron doesn’t engage in anything physically strenuous often, and as a result, he’s pretty weak and would have trouble defending himself against most.

Social information

Positive relations
-Mae Mink, his cousin: Though he doesn’t always understand her wild, brash nature, Myron cares deeply for Mae and is grateful to her for taking him in.
-Mercury, his Chao: Not long after Myron moved in, Mae took off on a particularly long adventure, leaving him alone with the house. It was one chilly afternoon that he spotted a struggling Chao being dragged along by the river. He dove in and saved the small creature, who has stayed with him ever since. He named him Mercury, due to his almost silvery coloring.

Negative relations

-Nessa Marten, his mother: Their relationship is tense and distant. They haven’t spoken since Myron left, but he still loves his mother. He’s just too afraid of facing the disappointment he must cause her.
-

History
Born to a single mother, Myron never knew his father. The only information he could garner from his mother about him was that his name is Dwyn. As he grew older, he began to sense his mother’s displeasure when he would ask of his father, and he soon decided to stop, fearing she might become angry at him.

Time passed, and though Myron had been close with his mother when he was young, their relationship deteriorated. Not wanting her son to repeat the mistakes she had made, Nessa urged him to invest more in school and work towards making a good life for himself as an adult. This was very difficult for Myron, however. He loved learning. It wasn’t the schoolwork he had a problem with; he was becoming increasingly afraid of social interaction.

His perfectionist nature was derailing him. He had enough confidence in his academic abilities, but how he handled himself around others was a different story. His thoughts became bogged down with critiques of each stutter, each misspoken word and whether he had accidentally offended someone. This anxiety reached a point where it affected his academic performance. He could barely even stand to go to school each morning.

His mother scolded him for his declining grades and enthusiasm. She wanted the best for him, and it frustrated her that he appeared to not care. Always having been particularly sensitive, he was all too aware of his mother’s disapproval. He feared telling her how he felt would only make it worse.

This continued, and the mother and son grew farther and farther apart. The tense atmosphere and conflict at home added to his stress at school. Myron couldn’t take it anymore.

Having always been friendly with his cousin Mae, he received a letter from her a week after his seventeenth birthday. She had wished him a happy birthday and told him of the important events in his life, including how she had moved out into a little riverside cabin. And how it was away from people.

Though he’d felt guilty about possibly intruding on his cousin, he secretly wrote back to her, asking if he could come to stay with her. When her next letter said yes, he waited for his mother to be away for the night and packed his things, taking off.

After reading a fair bit these characters do look interesting to say the least, Shrike and her or him would no doubt have a hard time getting on due to his origin.

Thank you Smile I was afraid they were a bit bland, considering they don't have any significant powers, so I'm happy to get someone else's opinion. I'm glad you find them interesting. ^_^

And I agree. Myron's kind of an equal-opportunity scaredy cat, so he'd probably just gawk at Shrike then run off or something. But Mae on the other hand.. Yeah, she's a bit of a bitch. lol

Well I think they are among some of the most interesting I'v seen It's alright not to have any super natural powers, Shrike has neither relying purely on his experience to see him through, Perhaps the only thing they would get along would both be the interest for adventure and hunting artifacts! But yea both of them are interesting.
