The Bloodaether

I may as well explain this so I can have it written down for myself and anyone else who is curious enough.

The Bloodaether is a nickname given to a small single-room pocket dimension within the confines of space. It's composed entirely of wild, rogue magic which has taken a semi-physical form of red, pulsing energy within, and the dimension is nothing but. It is tightly compact, and is widely considered to be some sort of dimensional bomb. Due to the nature of this nicknamed bloodaether, is is unpredictable and highly unstable enough that any physical body simply cannot use it without breaking apart. It's beyond a simple mind's comprehension, as is capable of insanity if anyone were to come close. Access to this dimension is ill-advised, but sought after for the raw power.

The origins for this is unknown, and the discovery of it is also left elusive. However, the touch of the bloodaether onto this world is, according to rumours, due to Tyrant Bafalaut-Versil, a powerful demon lord. He attempted to use the energies for world domination and to bring the world under his iron fist, but this ultimately failed as he was incapable of harnessing it without putting his life at risk. As a back-up, the demon used powerful magic to bind the energies into a semi-coherent being with an ever-changing shape, and used seals to squeeze this mass of wild energy into a somewhat stable physical form.

This bloodaether being was known as Mafrit;

Who took the form of a demon, and was raised under Tyrant Bafalaut's care.

With Mafrit created, who was the embodiment of this energy dimension and was considered a gateway to that power source, it implanted totems and statues of themselves around the globe, infused with strands of these wild magics that their body was formed from. These statues created a maddening effect in a radius around them, and caused those unfortunates to hunger for the power. This created several cults that paid homage to the bloodaether in various ways, and they used shards of these statues as totems to cast warped spells and distorted magic. They were capable of distorting reality itself, but they were unable to control it, and what they altered was not only unpredictable, but also temporary.

However, none could truly grasp the power of the dimension, as it was simply a mockery, a mimicry of the true thing. Recently, a shaman of one of these cults was capable of tapping into this power by visiting the dimension himself. Although he shielded himself with a variety of black magic spells, the aggressive aether still managed to consume his arm and eye before he was able to escape, twisting into his body like a leech to a host, and altered his body and mind in various ways.

But this shaman was now part of the aether, and by extension, Mafrit. They were able to bend reality to their whim in small doses, but each attempt would further destroy and consume his body. And he knew that if he continued to utilise this energy, it would surely kill him, as it was struggling to withhold within his physical form. But what's an arm and an eye and a life for power? They felt like a god, a god driven by basic mobian goals, and continued anyway.

TL;DR: A dimension of unpredictable but violent energy that can be used for the whims of a caster, at the cost of sacrificing your sense of self and literal body. Also there's a literal embodiment of it somewhere, but don't worry, they're sealed away.
