Broken Gorge Empty Broken Gorge

Broken Gorge
Town of outlaws

There's a large and thriving town within the outskirts of the mountains. A town built within the maw of a dried-up gorge, though a small and shallow river runs past without harm - the remains of a once-powerful and savage current. Protected by two looming cliff-sides, the town holds a western theme. Buildings like you'd see in movies, occasionally run down and the wood showing age, but still usable. A saloon is even prevalent, and the constant howl of laughter and the clink of glasses can be heard from within, as well as that lingering smell of alcohol seeping through the walls.

Though little is known to outsiders that this town, known as Broken Gorge to the inhabitants, is built on top of an old mineral deposit. And of course, this has the town thriving with trade. The economy is surprisingly booming, which isn't originally to be expected considering the partially run-down state of the area. Where the money goes is kept secret, and speaking of it's of no surprise that such a simple town has a bigger one itself.

The first is that they don't allow visitors. Simple travelers, tourists, wanderers are often scared and pushed away with threats of death if they dared try to walk about. Why? Well, the town is full of criminals. Those looking to get away from the law and the eyes of the officials. Ranging from savage and bulky brutes to sly and cunning masterminds. Theft? Child's play. Murder? Sure, why not. They welcome it. Take in anyone with a bad and foul reputation. The worst of the worst ends up here, and as long as they have money in their pockets they're free to stay as long as they want. Goody-two-shoes? Well, good luck surviving with your head.

The only requirement is that everything is that business is untouched. That acts in the town from the inhabitants do not affect the income or cost valuable resources. Without law, without rules, the town is often dealing with murder that is never dealt with, theft that is never discovered and wounds that are never healed. But as long as you don't murder important members of the town that run it, and as long as you don't steal cash that keeps the place going, you can do what you like.

The second is that it is a slave town.

Though you wouldn't think it at first, no not at all. I mean, bar the occupants it's innocent enough. But below this western settlement is an underground complex, absolutely massive, which focuses on mining the sheer amount of undiscovered minerals within the abandoned and buried deposit. Take one of the elevators into the underground and you'll be greeted with the monotonous sound of digging. As hundreds of slaves work for their slave drivers for a weekly dosage of food.

Business business business. That's all that matters. These slaves are starved, broken beyond repair and treated as a number that is taught that it's only purpose is to dig. And most believe it. Starved and partially dehydrated, every number can be wasted. Every number can be replaced. And every number knows that fact. There are more shifts than sleep and break hours, and most are pushed to their limits whether they like it or not. You'd think they'd try to escape, but power-removing shock collars tend to prevent any sort of ability to fight back.

Notable areas in Broken Gorge

The Slave Market
When they're able to take a break to restore what energy they have, some choose to make their way to the market. Rumored that the slaves running it are spies for the slavers, it's less of a 'money' market and more of a trade market. If you have something, it could be of worth. It could be traded. Perhaps for some water, for some more scraps of food, all under-the-rug. Manage to steal something? Trade it in, get something which can help you live just a little longer. As long as those running the show don't find out.

The Dome
To the north of Broken Gorge is a large dome made of metal slabs and a great iron door. Which is very much out of place considering the whole 'western/cowboy' theme of the town, most of the place consisting of brick and wood. This place is also the weekly entertainment for the cruel and brutal inhabitants. Inside is something of an arena. Many seats on an extended platform that circle around a thick (assumingly) glass cage for the audience to look within with ease, lights turned towards said cage, it would be obvious that this place is used for fighting. That's even before you notice the blood stains that haven't been cleaned out.

In order to get reputation, you have to earn it on the ranking boards. Everyone loves a good show, after all. You enter. You fight. You win, and you better. You lose? Well, no-one likes alive contestants. And your opponent isn't gonna let you live if they themselves don't want to be humiliated. It's life-or-death, but considering who roams the streets it's hardly of surprise, and people hardly care until they're about to die, funnily enough. Now, powers can be used. But that glass that covers the arena prevents it from escaping outwards, including things like teleportation if anyone thinks about escaping. Straight-out murder isn't gonna get you anywhere either. The crowd wants entertainment. The crowd needs to get going. Make them like you. It'll make life easier. Trust me.

The Warehouse
Outright-murder not your thing? Fair enough, wuss. The Warehouse has you covered. Now I'd call this 'illegal' but nothing's really illegal here. So have some hand-to-hand good ol' fashioned fighting instead. Powers? Nah, just use what you have on you to take down your opponent. Seats are reserved, and tickets can only be obtained if you have a pass to these events. Run by a large fellow called Gardner, but we'll talk about him in a second.

The Bigshot Saloon
Despite being a saloon which is supposed to be for the public, this place is reserved for the big-shots of the town, the important and mighty and those who you just overall don't want to mess with. Drinks are free, so is the (honestly rather awful) food and any company anyone could want if they feel like it. Those who aren't qualified receive a very nice bullet to the head, and most steer clear of this entire building, let alone the entrance.

The Big Ten of the Gorge

These ten are the best of the best. They keep the place running, they have incredible power and getting on the wrong side of these terrifying individuals will earn you a slow and painful demise. Even the inhabitants of this foul and twisted settlement know to treat these ten with respect. The numbers go according to rank, with one being the best and ten being the last. Though to be fair, a perk of being one of the Ten is the amount of free stuff you get, so hey.

#1 - Noose
Owner of the town. An orange phoenix who isn't afraid of showing herself off in the clothing department, but that hardly means people are free to touch. Despite that, she cares more about her business than recreational activities, and only allows people into the town if they have something to offer. With an incredibly foul and colourful vocabulary, she keeps both the business running and and breaks the town's 'workers' to make sure they're doing as they're told and know their place. Born into her role, she took charge of the town earlier than expected when her father, Chains, went missing. Has a superiority complex, and genuinely believes that slaves are just numbers that are to work and work alone and can be replaced effortlessly. Thus, no-one has managed to escape since being in her rule, bar one recently. She can make herself explode. And is also an incredibly dirty fighter with no respect for her opponent. Bada boom.

#2 - Duxenkreig Bellanum
Noose's little pet kitty cat, who isn't fully there. By 'pet' I mean bodyguard, and by 'not fully there' I mean absolutely terrifying and should be avoided at all costs. A slave born into slavery and taken under his master's literal wing, Dux's mind was utterly broken beyond repair, as well as further damaged by Thello's experimentations. His mind and personality fluctuates a lot, and his moves are utterly unpredictable even to Noose. A fighter which is outright banned in The Dome, his combination of amazing reflexes and telekinesis, as well as the literal inability to feel pain, leaves many dead bodies without much difficulty. Though he is controlled, albeit by an amplified shock collar attached to his nerve system. Unlike Noose, he has no concept of morality and is incapable to be reasoned with.

#3 - Temporal
Real name is Jonathan White. Used to be joint #3 with his twin brother before White was forced to shoot him in the head. A slaver rabbit with chimera qualities and dressed like a sheriff, as his name implies he's capable of manipulating time to his advantage, though it does add more strain upon his body the more he abuses it. Perfection with a pistol and obsesses over the concept of perfection in general, he doesn't acknowledge failure and keeps a flawless record.  Also organises everything for Noose and tends to be the one to make sure everything is running smoothly. They had a thing for a while. It didn't last long. Also doubles as a private investigator for the actual law in Central City. Fancy that, the law really is corrupt.

#4 - Sigmartyus
An infamous warlord that was cast away from her cult tribe of savage warriors after betraying them, but not before increasing the body count. A thick-scaled blue dragon decorated with various tribal tattoos, she originally went to search for his younger brother but instead found the town and stayed there since. Despite being cast away, she still worships the pagan god of protection and war to aid him in her battles. Currently the highest ranked fighter of the Dome and keeps that title weekly. When Sly went missing, she quickly proved to be capable of taking his rank.

#5 - Gardner
{Will be added in time}

#6 - Thug
Real name is Ban Rete. A multi-armed stone-skinned basilisk which is more muscle than brain. It is debatable if he has a brain at all. Absolutely massive and almost double the size of an average mobian if he straightened his back, his two front arms are plated with steel gauntlets so heavy even he is forced to drag them across the floor and arch his back. A mountain of muscle and a powerhouse and a half, a single blow from his many fists could send someone into a coma. Thankfully, he's incredibly dim and easily tricked, usually relying on his partner, Eyes, to tell him where to go. The two are currently on a mission to find Sly. Like they have been doing for the past 10 years. Noose just likes to keep them busy so they don't mess things up like they have in the past. Banned from the slave areas so he doesn't accidentally let them out. Again.

#7 - Eyes
Real name: Donthenia Terke. Thug's partner-in-crime. A green gorgon who, like her partner, has the ability of turning people to stone. She's not exactly smart herself, however, and she does tend to lose her temper quite a bit and gets a tad too cocky for her own good, often hiding behind Thug when they get into a bad situation because of her big mouth. Like Thug, she's on a mission to find the third partner of their group, Sly, for the past 10 years. The only thing keeping them going is the pay, and the two take mercenary jobs occasionally. When not on the job, she takes great pride in her work underground. Her ego is also incredibly huge and incredibly annoying since becoming part of the Ten.

#8 - Thello Farenze
A spider with a knack for robotics and genetics. Now she isn't a genius at both, in fact she's rather sub-par considering some, but she at least considers herself to be incredible, despite most of the time things go horribly wrong or horribly right accidentally. When people do a bad, they are sent to Thello. And Thello has her way with them, because she wants to know how they tick. Tends to mumble and mutter about getting the love off a guy called 'Darian' to an obsessive extent, even having a little robotic monkey which malfunctions quite a lot. 'Worked' on Dux and fiddled with his brain which in turn broke him. Also has an assistant who she also meddled with. It's honestly surprising that the two aren't dead considering where her many hands have been.
