An Old Reunion Empty An Old Reunion

"Your father's not coming to save you."

She knew that. She always knew that. Part of her hoped, but most knew it was all a mere fabrication. A fairy tale. A make-believe fantasy that everything always went her way. And yet here she was, slumped on the ground, blood dribbling from her mouth with a lone figure standing above her. There wasn't a hero to save her. Her parents weren't going to swoop in and protect her from the world.

Her eyes stung from the tears that filled them. Her mouth tasted sickly of blood. Her body ached from the bruises that covered her. She knew all this to be true.

But what Angelica didn't believe was that she deserved this.

Angelica herself was but a child at fourteen years old, not even reaching that point where one could properly be considered a teenager. Her species was a strange and exotic one - an angler fish, complete with her little light atop her head and her giant jaws. Blue fishy scales with darker blue hair that was scraggly and messy. Her eyes were a striking yellow, yet dulled from recent experience. And finally, upon her face, was an old pink acid burn that refused to grow back her scales.

Despite her royal heritage, her life could only be considered terrible, unfortunate, and to some, rightfully deserved. She had been tricked, betrayed, and cursed - quite literally, in fact. For the last year, she'd lived homeless on the streets, became a vagrant and stabbed to get by. She'd made no friends, only enemies, and had ruined all chances she had with people because she'd rather hate the world and everyone in it. Her jealousy of those who were better than her made her violent. For a good reason, she thought.

After all, she had been cursed with legs and lungs, unable to return home to the sea.

And then she had been cursed to be incapable to hurt people - her attempts at wounding others would instead reflect back to her, littering her body with stabs and wounds that she had intended for others.

She had been betrayed, she'd watched her friend die, she had been assaulted and had her face burnt off, and now she had been captured by a psychopath. Some would say that she should be used to the hardships of life. The fish had tried to stay tough, but a steel demeanour can only last so long when you're fourteen and unable to fight back against those who hurt you.

Angelica lightly clawed at the dirtied steel ground, hesitant to get up. Hesitant to do anything. She could feel the eyes digging into her like puncture wounds, every breath being watched and scoffed at. She felt disgusting. She was disgusting. Her life was disgusting and she just wanted to go home. She didn't deserve this.

"You deserve this."

And before the child was a shark. A blue shark, with bright pink hair that was brushed to the side and flowed down her rightward shoulder. Her body was decorated with darker markings. Her eyes were strange - one was pink, the other was blue. And both equally looked down coldly in contempt and disgust.

It was none other than the infamous Lulu Mamia, the Slum Lord. A cruel and callous shark with a reputation for being the queen of thugs. Although she had been investigated heavily in the past, her activities were never halted and she was never caught. The woman operated in the shadows, dragging the good and the rich into her pit to fight for their lives.

She was the queen of deciding who lives and who dies. Her pit, her mockery of a gladiator ring, was what she lived for. A circle of violence and death, where the innocent, and the foolhardy, and the smug, and the rich, and the wealthy, and all those people who thought they were better were all reduced to nothing. Money and fame wouldn't save you from being beaten to death. Watching the mighty fall was a thrill.

And before her was the daughter of the source of her ire.

It had been easy for her, honestly. Angelica had simply walked into the bad part of town and had encountered her in the streets. A chance meeting in her favour, like the gods had given Lulu exactly what she wanted. It was a case of mistaken identity, where the angler fish had thought Lulu to be some other shark.

It was a pathetic meeting. The child had immediately ran up to her, tears in her eyes, blubbering that she was sorry, that she didn't mean to stab her. That she desperately wanted to be friends again because she didn't have any and she was lonely. That she just wanted to go home.
"Where is your home?" Lulu had asked.
"B-blue Coral," she sobbed, "Blue... C-coral City. I t-told you this..."

She'd seen the child's face in her home city before. She had a feeling, but at that moment she knew. It was unmistakable, and Angelica had admitted it herself upon further questioning.

Angelica was the daughter of The Emperor of Blue Coral City - Caligaius.

Lulu didn't even need to kidnap her like she did with others. The child had come willingly, under the delusion that she was someone else. Of course, it didn't take long for the illusion to break, but at that point she couldn't run. The child had hope, and Lulu had single-handedly crushed it in her hand. Angelica had sobbed, had cried, had screamed, but Lulu just wanted to see her fight in her pit.

Just like how her father had made Lulu fight in his.

It was poetic, really.

And now, the shark was stood before this child. Angelica was terrified of this woman, but Lulu didn't feel overwhelming emotion towards her. Wasn't infuriated, she wasn't angry, she was simply cold and uncaring, holding only mind interest each time the child was beat down. This time, by her.

There wasn't even an arena, there wasn't even a pit. It was just the two of them in this lonely, empty, stale warehouse at the outskirts of town. Standing over this child gave her the thrill of power, and she revelled in it. Angelica hadn't even attempted to escape - she herself knew how fruitless it was.

And knowing that the fish couldn't even hurt her? Couldn't bite her? Couldn't stab her? Any attempt made would only harm her more?

It was delightfully satisfying.

Because she deserved this.

O-oh.
This is a bad.
You're a bad.
Stop this.

I significantly regret suggesting part of this idea to you. Lulu is not allowed near kids. She is a bad childminder.
Jeezus.

((@Dregan: Thanks for the suggestion, you're the best <3 ))

Blue Coral City. A grand and mighty city in the depths of the ocean, one of the biggest within the East Ocean - a Capital to some. Boasting fantastic and inquisitive architecture and historical ruins of ages gone by, the city is often considered a tourist spot for oblivious and curious aquatic mobians. Blue Coral is circularly built around the edge of a deep chasm named the Mouth Of Duellum, though the origin and source of this name is unknown. Despite being deep within the ocean, the city is illuminated brightly and boldly.

Of course, the city is often feared as it is respected. As revered as it is considered savage and barbaric. As beautiful as it is corrupt. While outwardly it may be the perfect tourist destination recommended by Top Ten Atlantic Cities, Blue Coral is built on a foundation of power and domination. Taking the old archaic belief that power means status, those with power within this domain have wealth and popularity. The strong are celebrities, the strong are sought after. Status and title are proven with fights until submission. To lose in battle is to lose your place on the city's hierarchy.

Within the Mouth Of Duellum is The Emperor's gladiatorial pit - the official fight ring of Blue Coral City. For The Emperor's entertainment, and by extension the entertainment of the crowds, fighters are pit within this ring to duel and prove themselves for his almighty approval. It is considered the ultimate sport, and corrupting the pure, raw thrill of battle is punishable and unheard of.

Or was unheard of until roughly ten years ago...

It had started off as a simple idea. 'What if we changed the odds? What if we made a fighter lose, and bet on the winner? What if we made the Mouth ours?' It was an unheard of idea, no-one had dared to interfere with The Emperor's entertainment before. That was until Lulu had started to question it.

She had composed a group within just a month - a group that shared the same goal as she did, a group unable to fight for power like all else. Each with their own abilities, their skills, their powers that in combat are useless and therefore makes them useless within the The Emperor's eyes.

And yet...

"Why are you doing this...?"
Lulu stared down at the woman before her, an undesired feeling in her stomach. Within an abandoned building at the outskirts of Blue Coral was a small group of aquatic mobians. Mainly a shark, a squid and a lobster. To be more precise, the shark and the squid were looming over a tied up lobster woman, the door barred and a pipe in the shark's hand. The green captive's question lingered in the air, her lip quivering with fear.

She repeated it. She needed an answer. She demanded it.
"Why are you doing this to me?!"

She raised her voice, her claws snapping, her body wriggling to free her bounds. As if the silence the first round had given her the adrenaline to act out, "P-please! I need... I need to get home... for my husband... he's- he's fight-"
"We know," Lulu's sharp tone silenced this woman. The pipe in her hand gently and repeatedly tapped against the palm of her waiting hand, her off-coloured eyes glaring down at this hostage. The lobster's eyes widened at this notion.

This tense air wouldn't last for long as another voice entered the fray.

"Yeppers!" the squid chimed in, "We know EVERYTHING! About YOU!" Enoch, the orange squid, sat down on the floor next to this lady, cross legged and pulling his tongue. He tilted his head to the side, watching her squirm like a trapped rat, "Like.. I know that you wake up at 7am or like three minutes past and you immediately wake up, eyes all open like whoa, and go make breakfast." Enoch's face held an expression of disgust, "At that time? And Coral Loops? Really? Whoa lady, you sure are old! That's old-people-cereal!" Despite the casual and joking admittance, the lobster woman's face contorted into sheer disgust and fear. They'd been stalking her? How much did they know about her life? Her breath left her throat, eyes darting between the two thugs.

"We know your husband is planned to fight today," Lulu continued unperturbed, ignoring the small excitable outburst of her companion who was now poking at the lobster woman's forehead and dismissing her cries of fear, "But he won't. Because he knows you're not at home."
"You can't do that! He... he needs to fight! S-stop poking me...! The Emperor-"
"Your husband is going to forfeit the match for your safety. This is what has been agreed," Lulu raised her head with an intimidating 'thwap!' of her pipe against her palm, "Now be quiet. Unless you want this pipe lodged into your skull."

The lobster began to sob, bringing her knees up in a pitiful attempt to hug herself. Her body was shaking and the tears wouldn't stop flowing from her eyes, intermingling with the water around them. "P-please..." she whispered, her eyes squeezed shut in an attempt to forget the scene before her, "M-my kids... They... my husband... he's our only income... they'll-"

"Eurgh, gross, lady. You're crying again," the squid pulled his tongue, extending one of his legs to press his foot lazily against her eyes. She yelped in surprise, her body writing and wriggling in a desperate attempt to get away from the eccentric squid man, "C'mon, Lu! You said if she said anything, you'd hit her! She said a thiiiing! She's being duuumb! Like why would you say a thing if you saying a thing would mean you hitting her? Maybe she's into it. Which is also gross. This lady is super gross, Lu. Maybe her hubbo won't even do the quitting thing cause she's so gross and kinda ugly. I wouldn't."

As Enoch babbled off, Lulu hesitated. She knew this woman had a family, but she hoped that could be dismissed when it came to it. Enoch could easily distance himself away from the reality of situations, but Lulu was a lot more grounded to reality. To destroy the foundation of a family for her own benefit, was that really the right thing to do? She'd never done this before until now, but it was happening, and her hostage's fear was making her uneasy. Lulu was scared of being what she hated - a monster like The Emperor.

She looked down at this squirming woman. A moment's hesitance appeared on her face. The pipe in her hands wavered with uncertainty. If she didn't hold up on that threat, she wouldn't be considered a threat to begin with. If she didn't abide by what she said, she'd be the one being manipulated. If she allowed this moment of weakness, she'd never succeed in helping her family achieve.

Lulu harshly brought the pipe down on the lobster's skull with a resounding CRACK. The woman immediately fell limp as Enoch gasped with excitement and surprise, all movement and consciousness in her gone in a single action. She was out like a light, and thankfully not dead.

Next time, Lulu would need to remember to gag them.

Ohey. Mouth of Duellum. That's a thing I recognise and get. 8D

Also holy crap Enoch. Like, it's always seemed like Lulu is the true bad guy, but man that squid is the real monster.
The blood is on his hands.
Tentacles.
Whatever.
