Behind Bars

Greetings all. I am once again making some use of the plotting board to gauge interest in an idea I had.

So, this is about a group of tavern bartenders who get together and... No, wait... wrong kind of bars... Sorry about that.


I was considering an rp taking place in a prison. It would likely start with some new inmates being transferred in, which can be an opening for some characters, and have them added to and interacting with the prison population.

For the prison itself, I want to avoid a high or maximum security setting. I was thinking that it would be a more mid level security prison where the majority of the criminals there are not in for violent crimes. Also, the prison isn't really set up to handle super powered inmates, at least not in large numbers, so they would screen them as best they can to make sure none are brought in.

So, this would likely be something of a social rp, which could be a good way for criminals to make connections or plan escape. Maybe there would even be some wrongfully convicted people just trying to stay out of trouble or make their stories heard. I am planning to have this lead into another rp down the line, but that might not happen for some time.

I like them and I would want to RP this scenario with you. However, I think there is a RP that is already going on similar to this. Yours is much more ironed out and you seem to have a plan to go further beyond this RP. I'd like to RP with you on this scenario.

I have to ask, will there be an eventual big break-out? Or is it just gonna be mostly that, aside from all the casual dialogue and whatnot, every character is gonna just be on their own, like either serve their sentence or break out themselves? Or will that just vary based on character interaction?

Side note to Hikari! There is indeed another similar rp, but it is actually dead. People keep trying to revive it but I don't think the creator is interested in it anymore. :P

Also, when you say you will be making another RP down the line, would it be relative to this with the same characters with some additional tossed in for some sort or grand plot, or you haven't thought that far yet?

I have a question though, would it only really be prisoners you would be asking for? Or is there the possibility of some others maybe rping the other side of the 'bars'? 

Either way, I would love to have a chance in this as it sounds like one if those 'group bonding' types of rps, and we certainly don't have enough of them :3

Okay, a lot of replies here.

So I'll start with Hikari's question.
I am planning on a follow up rp, depending on how things go with this one. It would be a continuation with the characters currently involved in the prison setting, but it would then also open up for additional characters outside the prison to join in however they see fit.

On to Foreva.
For the moment, I'd like to just focus on the prisoners. There is a possibility that if someone wants to join as prison staff or guards, that could be worked in, but such a character wouldn't be likely to have a lot of direct contact with the prisoners as they'd have their own jobs to attend to.

Yes, there is a possibility of characters from outside the prison being involved. Having visitors for the prisoners could happen, but there isn't much chance or regular contact between characters inside the prison and outside of it.

And Froshana.
As for a break out, I might consider that somewhere down the line. There is nothing stopping the characters from attempting to escape on their own or as a group though. Interaction between the prisoners is going to be the central focus. But it will be up to each character to decide what their focus is.

To allow some of those potential arcs to advance though, I'll probably have to include time skips in this rp. Those skips may be over several hours or days, possibly but not likely longer if things settle into a routine for the characters. After all, if your character is trying to break out, they aren't likely to be successful if they do so immediately. They'd need to learn the routines and layout of the prison first. Maybe your character would like to get chummy with the guards and prison staff, and maybe get themselves some perks for their stay. That would be a time consuming task. Maybe your character just wants to follow the rules and toe every line to earn some points for good behavior.

So in character, everyone involved may be in this prison for months as things unfold. Maybe less if something unexpected happens. I envision it as more of a long term story rather than a series of events that take place over two or three in character days.

So, hopefully that answers the questions and gives you an idea of how I imagine things for this rp.

I get it, keeping it simple but the prospect of adding more once things are a little more settled would definitely work out a lot more in the groups favour. I don't know why but I thought of this as a similar story along the lines of Orange is the New Black xD

I would definitely be happy to join in. Probably as Tala, as Yukiko is too soft a character to be wrongly accused or under the impression of doing something wrong, and well, Zephyros is an officer so unless something really unfortunate happened to Mr Sass then it's doubtful for him to be on the inside.

Okay, and another thing to help me with choosing a character? You said they'll be screened to try and keep characters with superpowers out? How thorough might we be talking? I'm guessing finding something like, oh, I dunno, electrokinesis is considered fairly basic to find and probably a trait they wouldn't want in the facility? But if they have more subtle powers like, er... super strength, that could slip through? Will you have to glance over the bios for characters we want to use and approve or disapprove if you think they could end up there?
And I figure it should be preeeettty obvious, but this probably won't be, like, a men only prison or a women only prison but probably mixed for simplicity and fiction's sake?

Well, there isn't going to be a test that prisoners will undergo, since I doubt there is any test that would truly work outside of a fully equipped laboratory or a talented telepath who happens to want such a job.

So, I think there would be a simple checklist to go over.
- If a character has a criminal history, it's likely that their abilities would be part of their profile
- If a character is likely to resist arrest and would use their powers to escape, they are pretty much guaranteed to be noted
- If a character is famous, its likely their powers would be noted through public scrutiny
- If a character is being hunted by a legal entity, that group is likely to have shared information about their target with authorities

So really, a character would need to hide their abilities as their own standard practice, or they would have to be little known, like being a drifter frequently on the move, or they would have to have subtle powers, things difficult to notice. Otherwise, a character is likely to have their abilities ID'ed and then be shipped off to a more appropriate facility immediately, depending on their powers of course.

Depending on what kind of powers the characters included in this rp possess, I may have to go over them and see how can this person be contained or handled by normal individuals, and then determine if they would be suitable for this setting.

Now, I have pondered the gender segregation in the prison. I think that would be a major pain to enforce and still keep the rp fun. So, men and women will be able to intermingle, but I'm sure the prison guards and staff will try to dissuade the prisoners from trying to fraternize with each other.

Mmkay, that makes sense! Definitely clears up some choices here for me and I just have to work out some other details for who'll I'll toss into a jumpsuit. :P

Had one particular RP in a prison in the past before and it was good fun! Wound up getting one of my favourite characters to use out of the whole thing, it'd definitely be something I'd be interested to do again. Albeit, obviously a fair few people are showing interest atm, so understandable if you'd rather not have even more people hopping on board. XD

So, as for everyone still interested, please sit down and consider what character you'd like to use for this rp and think about what you want them to be arrested and sent to prison for. Violent crimes are not the best choice for this one. Consider looking up details about medium security prison. I had to go to many different websites for info.

Since Hikari is based on the Archie character, then that means he will have technology as his weaponry. I was going to base his reason for imprisonment because of his clan being involved in robberies and raids (which he was not in part of). Since G.U.N clashed with them, I can see this being possible.

He would not be too powerful since most of his abilities come from his suit and weaponry, but he should still be capable of fighting and his signature wall-kicks.

Well, I think I'm pretty close to getting an opening post up. I'd just like to double check with everyone here, see if you're all ready to go.

If anyone is having trouble deciding on characters and/or circumstances around their arrest, feel free to say something here. Perhaps I or someone else might have ideas for how to resolve any such issues.

You already know I'm ready to go, but I'll post here anyway. Should have all my character deets ready to go by the time you get things posted.

Now, is this gonna be a closed rp? Or is it gonna be open?

I'm still interested! Maaay be a li'l busy/distracted until Tuesday, but will be good after that.
Have three characters I'm sorta dancing between using for it, but I'm sure I'll be able to settle more easily once things are beginning to roll!

Froshana, I plan on starting this rp as an open one. I'll give it a while for things to get started and people to join in. After that, I intend to leave it in the open forum, but I'll add a notation about it being a request to join rp. If a person has a suitable character I'd be willing to have them join in after things get going.

Dregan, don't worry about not being available to post immediately. I'm going to try and get the first post up tomorrow, but there will be a bit of a window for people to join in.

Hikari, I'm not going to establish a post order now. It'll be determined by the order that people post in the actual rp. But once that is done, I will expect people to abide by that.
