Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
((ooh, the occult! Count me in! Obviously, this seems like a good one for Caen.))
For a certain young hedgehog, the foggy autumn's afternoon was perfect. Yes, it wasn't bone-chillingly cold, but it was cold enough fir Caen to feel completely comfortable. After all, he could manage better in the cold than most. The afternoon sky was quickly darkening, and before long, it would be dusk. That night was the pumpkin harvest festival, and Caen was kinda excited. He liked a good bit of pumpkin, mostly within baked goods, and the scent of burning jack-o-lanterns also pleased him.
Caen stopped in his tracks when he saw a young bat walking along the street, carrying a very large pumpkin, lit with a small flame. She appeared to be struggling quite a bit. Caen's suspicions were confirmed when the bat complained about the weight of this pumpkin. He smiled, and walked towards her until he was walking alongside her "do you need some help, miss?" Caen asked politely, waiting for a response.

The woman replied to Caen in a thick Spagonian accent, eagerly handing the pumpkin to him, almost as if she was trying to force it into his hands. She noted, with odd wording, that the jack-o-lantern was very important, to which Caen nodded "of course. It's an essential part of tonight's celebrations, isn't it?" Caen asked, holding onto the pumpkin. He would agree that this gourd was very heavy, which struck Caen as strange, as he was unsure if pumpkin's usually weighed quite that much. He chuckled, "I can see why you were struggling. This is a weighty one."

Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
Both the bat woman and Caen would have heard a faint clanking noise in the distance, almost as if there was someone letting the two Mobians know that they were not, in fact, alone.

Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
The bat told Caen to come along, speaking to him almost as if he were a child, which admittedly irritated Caen a little. She also noted that the 'notte' was a special one, and that they were 'burning up the moonlight', to which Caen gave a chuckle "that's a very odd way of putting it, but yes-"
Caen cut himself off as, not too far away, he could hear a faint, yet easily audible, clanking sound. He turned in the general direction of the noise, giving a quiet "hmm?" as he did so. "Can you hear that, or is it just me?" Caen asked the bat, trying to perceive any shapes - human, mobian, or otherwise - in the darkness.

Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
An eerie pause of silence was the only thing that kept the hedgehog company as a gentle breeze danced across the sleeping city. Nothing--no figure or silhouette of any kind would be seen at all by the young hedgehog or by anyone who accompanied him.Â
Meanwhile, a small, Mobian feline girl, about 11 or 12 with short blonde hair and blue eyes was walking along the sidewalks of Station Square, humming a sprightly tune without a care in the world as the sky above turned into a mesh of orange and purple.

Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
Childlike giggling served as the only response to the batwoman and young Caen, until a voice, gentle yet firm reassures to the two Mobians,
"Do not worry, fleshling. I am not going to harm you."
A lithe body in a plain white, long-sleeved nightgown with short brown hair slowly appeared floating before them, a small grin was on their face as they crossed one leg over the other while taking a seat on a pile of crates.Â
The young little cat girl paid no mind to the red woman behind her, being only worried about what kinds of treats and candies would be at the festival this evening.

Caen listened to the bat, who was clearly worried about what this noise would be, guessing that it may be a ruffian, or possibly a spirit. To be completely honest, Caen was on edge himself, as he could not see anything making this noise in the darkness.
The bat was now desperate to get away, but Caen noticed something that was rather odd- this jack-o-lantern was now being carried away from the general area of the festivities. He decided not to bring this up, for now. After all, he was armed, so he had no worries about an ambush. He noticed that they were walking towards a woman with a peculiar hair colour, and a crimson red dress. Caen looked over at the bat "so, uh... How's your evening been so fa-"
Caen was cut off by a sound much like giggling, almost in a child-like fashion. He spun around, trying to ascertain the location of the noise "who is making that noise?" He asked aloud. His question was answered when a figure appeared before him, in a white nightgown. She spoke as though she was not mortal herself. Hardly surprising, considering the time of this particular night "oh, nevermind. I see someone's practicing a bit of magic. Although, I'd definitely question your attire, not really... Suited for city life, I'd say." Caen spoke, in a pretty casual manner, seemingly unfazed by the cat's words.

Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
"Magic? You think I'm some sort of witch?"Â
The ghost child then burst into a fit of laughter, as if they'd just been told the funniest joke in their lifetime. A sea of were streaming down their face as they choked out between wheezy giggles,
"You--you really do know a bona fide ghost when ya see one, do ya? Haha!" They joke, giving out another hearty chortle before continuing, "Have you ever considered going into paranormal investigating? It seems to be REALLY up your alley!" With an impish grin growing on the spirit child's face, they curl a beckoning finger kindling a blue flame in the mouth of the jack-o lantern and making it gradually float towards them.
"Now that you're done confusing spirits of the dead with practitioners of magic, I have a question for you two fuzzy fleshings...." They began, eyes locked on both Caen and Amanda, that mischevious smirk still plastered on the specter's face.
"Are you two witches?"Â
The pumpkin was floating between the ghost kid and the two Mobians, that lone flame still burning with bright cyan.
(So whattya guys think so far? Did I make a good first impression? Â )

Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
Caen chuckled "wow, you really know how to stay in role, don't you? Ever considered becoming an actor?" Caen said, watching the girl play with a blue flame that had emerged from the pumpkin. She had asked both Caen and the bat, who had now identified herself as 'Amanda', if they were a witch, to which Caen replied with a snort "I am no sorcerer. However, I do have a few... Spicy tricks up my sleeve, let's say."
Caen, to be honest, was beginning to grow suspicious of the whole situation. A witch appearing out of nowhere, mixed with Amanda seemingly becoming more and more desperate for more people to join her with the 'Jack of the lanterns', made Caen feel rather uneasy. He was glad that he had taken his weapons with him that night, frankly.
"Well! Uh... Perhaps we should head back towards the festival?" Caen asked, turning his head towards Amanda "we mustn't damage the pumpkin, after all!"

Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
The ghost kid gave an impassive shrug and flicked their hand in the direction of the tree stump. They wondered why they haven't asked them their name yet... Brushing the thought aside, the genderless ghost child then asks with a bright smile,
"So, what now?"
Kira took notice of the fox woman dancing around the tree and raised a brow, never seeing anyone behave in such a manner before. She began to walk over there, wondering who on Earth this woman was and why she was doing what she was doing.

Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
Amanda pointed out that the 'festivities hadn't even begun yet', which confused Caen, as he was sure that the festival had been going on for a little while, now. He grew more suspicious that underneath Amanda's pleasant exterior, there was something much more shady going on. Unfortunately, Caen was now curious, meaning he decided to play along.
Caen watched the ghostly child move the pumpkin, still lit with a bright blue flame, through the air, and set it down on a nearby tree stump, as Amanda asked the 'fantasma bambino'. At this point, Caen overheard giggling, this time it sounded much more... Adult, in nature, rather than a child. Caen's suspicions were confirmed when he saw a woman the same woman from earlier appear from behind a tree, appearing to dance around it, before sitting down and... Falling asleep, by the looks of it. Very odd, indeed.
Caen stared at the grown woman acting like a child for a few seconds, before shaking his head and looking back over at Amanda "so, uh, if you don't mind me asking, why have you put a jack-o-lantern on a treestump like that?"

Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
Meanwhile, not so far from the odd trio of Mobians there was a redheaded Mobian woman in a dark purple dress with long, wide sleeves was passing out fliers for some religious gathering of some sort. Her fiery locks of orange hair were secured within a banana clip, a few stray strands lay gently on the right side of her face. Her mouth was formed into a pleasant smile as she was handing some fliers to a small group of people, presumably all festival-goers. Jovial bursts of laughter could be heard from the small group as the mysterious mature woman went back to speaking to the remaining posse of Mobians...The only thing that was odd about the scene was that there were two hooded robed men standing right beside her...and no one else seemed to notice this.

Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
"R-ritual?" Caen repeated, stuttering slightly. Now, this could have meant anything but it was the way she said it. Caen clearly didn't want to be involved in the matter anymore, especially when the other woman appeared to prance away, still giggling, almost in a maddening fashion.
Caen cleared his throat "w-well, I think we can both agree, it has been an eventful evening, so I think it would be best..." Caen turned away, now visibly shaking "...if I were to go."

Re: Cultist Calamity (Open)
As Caen was trying to leave, Amanda said that she expected company, telling Caen not to be so hasty. After this, several people- presumably Mobian from their height- emerged from the darkness. All of them seemed to be dressed in renaissance-era clothes, which consisted mainly of a dark- almost navy- blue. They all wore masks to obscure their identity, and were carrying all kinds of weapons- guns, knives, swords- all glowing with what seemed to be an arcane presence. Caen backed away from the row of people, and soon realised that he was surrounded, with Amanda.
Caen began to breath heavily, still visibly shaking. That is, until he shook his head from side to side, and slowed his breathing 'relax, Caen, you got this. Just do your usual thing when you find yourself surrounded.' he thought to himself. He stopped shaking as he lifted his arms to his waist, laying his hands on the pommel of his blades. "So, this ritual... By my guess you're after a sacrifice?" He looked over at Amanda "and you think that's gonna be me?" He looked at the people in front of him, scanning their weapons with his eyes. "I mean, that's just a guess, considering you all are visibly armed. Generally if you're not trying to look threatening, you have your weapons away, no?"
