Beginning of a Journey

"So you're not always so quiet?" she asked.
A playful smile crossed her muzzle as she couldn't help but add in, "And broody?"

"Well... I guess I'm usually like this." he replies.

"So when does the 'wild' side come out?" she asked curiously.
She reached over and picked up her glass to wash down more of her food with the soda.

"Only when it's needed." he replies, before he puts some more steak in his mouth.

"And when is it needed?" she asked, tipping her head over to one side.

"When things get... unpleasant." he replies, not even looking up at her as he keeps eating.

She eyed him for a moment.
"Ohhhh," she said, "The sword thing, right?"

Wolf looks back at her for a few moments.

"If it's required." he replies, "Other times... I don't use it."

Reena nodded her head. Clearly she was trying to imagine this quiet wolf she had been traveling with going crazy with a sword.
"What else do you use then?" she asked, "Or do you just turn into a blur of sharp points and fluff?"

"Whatever is available." Wolf replies, "Or just claws, teeth, paws and feet."

"I'd sure hate to be the one to back you into a corner," Reena commented as she gestured a bit with her fork, "Sounds like a good way to get whooped."

"Desperation is a great motivator. But if things are that bad... you've probably already lost." he replies.

"Ah..."
Reena nodded her head. She smiled a bit, though, and added, "Hey, if I ever get you cornered and you lose, that'll be pretty sad, considering you're bigger than me."

"If you corner me, I think I'd have to have lost already." he replies, looking over at her, offering a little smile in return.

"Exactly!" she agreed, but then paused, "Although, I dunno. I can do a real number on your ankles, I bet."
A slight grin crossed her face.

"Guess I'd just have to step on you then." Wolf replies.

"Sounds like a good way to lose a toe," the dog teased him in response.

"Perhaps." he replies.

He takes a drink of water and turns his attention to finishing off the rest of his food.

Reena did similarly as well, letting the conversation end there. Her phone lit up after a short time and she adjusted her attention partway between eating and tapping away at the screen with one paw.

Wolf lets the silence stretch between them so he can finish off his food and water. He pays little attention to Reena for the moment.

The waitress came by and checked on them at one point, then left to continue waiting on other tables after refilling their drinks. During this time, Reena had slowed down in her eating, evidently getting full. When the waitress returned again, after verifying that the pair didn't want anything for dessert, Reena requested the check and a 'doggy bag', which was brought to their table quite promptly.
Reena paid for the meal with her card, but chose to leave cash for the waitress' tip instead. As she set the tip out on the table, she made sure to point out, "Oh yeah, you didn't know what a tip was earlier, right, Wolf? It's just doing this. I'm leaving her some extra money as thanks for good service."

"Oh, okay. It's okay to just leave it there?" he asks, "No one else is gonna come by and take it?"

"They shouldn't," Reena replied, "It might happen sometimes, but not when there's a good few other people around like this."

Wolf nods the her.

"Alright then." he says, "So I take it that means we're leaving now?"

"Once she brings me back my card, yeah," Reena replied with a nod, "Do you feel like doing anything after this? Wandering around? Or should we head back to the hotel?"
