If you watch anime you probably  know the kind of arcs im talking  about. We should put  our heads together and discuss  how this would  work.

Well... like... Plot and character arcs?
'Cause like, why they might be interesting on an interpersonal level, it would seem rather odd to enforce forum-wide arcs on literally everyone. Besides-which, arcs work on a system of planned character progression with key writers and leads and stuff. A lot of that will be inter-personal to each RPer rather than something that can be planned outright communally...

To cement some of the points Dregan's made, arcs can easily fall apart if people fail to respond when needed. You have to guarentee that people are ALWAYS going to be present when needed, and hope that they're not dragged away part way through.

It works fine for things like anime, because it's all done pre-broadcasting. For something that's done live, it's much much harder to maintain. It's a neat idea to be sure, but it requires so much management and time consuming things, etc. It falls down even more if people from different time zones get involved, and need an urgent response.

If you want to use arcs, you're best off thinking of a series of stories for your own characters and allow other people to interact in them, maybe even affect them. Coordinating a story between multiple people is a challenge and things can fall apart very easily. So really, it's best to run them with the assumption that you'll have no recurring character support.

I will admit that arcs can be amazing, and technically can be done through events. However as pointed out by others, it just is a loooot of work and planning. And not gonna lie, we already struggle some time with just the one-off events.

The closed you most likely would see is an event that is a throw back to one we did earlier.
