Valentines Fair
Something fluttered in her chest at that moment. It felt pleasant yet scary at the same time; like a living butterfly inside her. Amber could hear Twi's footsteps behind her, and stopped when his did. Ears perked up curiously, she turned back around to look at her companion. Her eyes caught sight of him shuffling his feet and the inquisitive look he held, and felt her smile grow into a tiny grin. Soundlessly, she walked toward him and said, "Hang out." As if reading his mind. "The billboard."
She then pointed to the large pink billboard that announced the event to the world. It was tall and quiet, and with the sun setting soon, a perfect place to perch. "It'll be..." She paused, trying to find the right word. "Fun." And carefully, she moved her hand to find his, hearing their fur brush together and wishing she could've felt it. Slowly, Amber began to tug him towards the billboard, leading him. Her hold was very loose however, loose enough for him to pull away without effort, barely there.
Her steps were light and swift, in sync with his. It felt like everything moved in slow motion for her. Everything seemed brighter, more colorful. Was she high? It was such a scary and pleasant thing she was feeling.

Re: Valentines Fair
At first it didn't seem like Twilight was fully... there. He hadn't started walking again at first, causing their grip to slip- but not entirely as he did start walking after he realized what was even happening. He gazed at the billboard as if it were the only interesting thing to look at in the city. He didn't dare move his eyes to the back of Amber's head. He couldn't, it just wasn't possible. He kept walking, enough to keep up with her, enough to keep their hands together though still loosely, but something about it seemed to be very automated. He just shifted to auto-pilot and let his mind run. It didn't seem like he was able to process it very easily.

Re: Valentines Fair
Eventually, seeing how it slowed her down and made moving less convenient, she let his hand go. They reached the billboard after what felt like a century, and Amber began to climb up its foundation. She didn't know what was going on either. So surreal. No way it was real. No possible way. This was a dream, some sort of fantasy. That was what she told herself, at least. There was no way in reality she would go do speed dating. No way in reality anyone would want to spend time with her, let them hold their hand. But then again, none of her life felt real. There was nothing real in her life. Even then as she reached the billboard's perch and the wind blasted in her face, she felt nothing. No cold, no motion. Well, for all she knew, she was already dead in the orphanage fire. Better enjoy it while she can.

Re: Valentines Fair
When they reached the billboard, Twilight didn't bother climbing up and simply flew instead. As the wind brushed over his face, a million thoughts ran through his mind. So many long years spent on this god forsaken planet, and this was the first time he felt so... confused. His feet touched the billboard and he immediately floated back up- afraid that he would have just fell through. It wasn't an illusion or anything after all. He looked back at where Amber would have ended up after she finished climbing up the billboard. When she appeared, he looked over the city. Everything seemed pretty small from up here, but there were skyscrapers that rose above them even still.
He leaned back on the billboard itself, letting his eyes wander from one area to the next. He never let his eyes move up to meet hers. He wasn't sure he could handle that. He didn't speak. He wanted to speak, but he didn't, he didn't think he would be able to if he tried. He waited for another comment from Amber- but he didn't think he would mind if they just silently enjoyed each others company either.

Re: Valentines Fair
They were right there, yet still so far apart. That was the only thing she can use to describe it, the distance they place themselves in. As if being closer to each other would be a waste of the space the billboard had. Her eyes were on him and only him, but his eyes never found her's. Not even once. But that was okay. She was very content with how they were right now. Memorizing his face and appearance as if she would forget everything tomorrow. As if she were dead tomorrow. Mustering the courage to speak, she slowly parted her lips. "...Did you like the macaroons?"
As she said this, her eyes flicked to the box curiously before going back to him immediately. Amber pulled her scarf over her muzzle, just a bit higher. She looked back to the city line.

Re: Valentines Fair
Twilight glanced back at Amber before turning back to look at the city. He opened his mouth as if about to speak, the closed it again. Then he opened his mouth again. A small voice came forth, somehow as if it weren't him that was speaking. Somehow, he felt like another part of himself came out as these words came forth. ".. Y.. Yes. Yeah." He replied. His stance became a lot more casual now, he folded his arms in a very loose and comfortable way. A small smile showed itself on his face, and it didn't really go away either. He seemed to be in a perfectly content state now. He looked down, letting more words throw themselves forth as a strange different part of himself took over. "... Thank you."

Re: Valentines Fair
How surprised was she to receive a verbal response from Twilight. Her ears perked up and her eyes found their way to his. Though she couldn't help but close her eyes to bask in the sound of his voice. She loved it very much. So different from the sounds she hears on a daily basis. It was unique, and it always makes her feel giddy and weird on the inside. Her tail gave a small wag, and the sound of its swishing managed to surprise her enough to look at it in an almost scolding manner.
Her cheeks were turning red slowly. And maybe it was because of that. The smile he had on his face, it was contagious. She couldn't help but feel her lips tug into their own little upward curve. "Y-... You're welcome." Now this surprised her too. For once, her voice lay above a whisper, and heard what she truly sounded like. It was velvety and smooth. So unlike the croak that would usually come out from her throat. All the surprises that day proved too much for her legs, and she began to slide down on the billboard to a sitting position. "It's... Beautiful, isn't it?" She looked towards the city line.

Re: Valentines Fair
His tails swished back and forth along with the breeze that blew high above the world. His eyes were fixated down at the city, watching mobians walk by like specks on the pavement.
".. Yeah. I guess it's nice." He replied. Over the time he's been in this world, the city was not one of his more favored places but... he got used to it over time. In fact, he could even say he kinda liked it- but he would never truly admit that.
He walked over to the edge of the billboard and sat down to get an easier look at the scenery. It was a little better than just leaning against the board itself. His eyes followed the daily lives of the mobians that walked below them. Someone tripped, he almost laughed.

Re: Valentines Fair
Brought back again. And again and again and again. Years of mindless habit consumed her whole. With or without another person, here she was again. This billboard was not foreign to her. No. So far from that. Hundreds of times she's climbed up there. Sat there. Watched everything from afar. Was that her true reason for showing up at the valentines fair?
Her hands subconsciously rubbed up her arms, feeling that odd sense of misery loom over her like a dark cloud. Years and years of being a stranger. On the outside looking in. Never truly belonging anywhere. No one to ever miss, or to miss her. She was a killer. That was what she'd become. But in truth, she was terrified of other people. Other mobians. So terrified, that she would've locked herself away in her apartment each time, if she wasn't so claustrophobic.
This was her special place. Somewhere no one could touch her. Could hurt her. Well. Not anymore.

Re: Valentines Fair
Other mobians ignored the one that had tripped as they frantically scrambled to get back up again. What a show. The Kitsune looked around, everything else was normal. He yawned. Being used to being around someone was weird to him. He didn't particularly mind it. Up here, it was fine. If it was just them at least. It made him feel a weird feeling, something he's not sure he's ever experienced. So much so, that he was absolutely sure that the perpetual dark aura swirling around his clawed left hand had started to let up a little bit. It had to have all been in his head though.
Finally, Twilight looked over at Amber... then immediately looked away again. Nope, nu-uh, not in a million years could he actually look at that one. One glance was enough. Suddenly he felt like he needed a pick-me-up, a boost, something special. Maybe a treat of some kind? He scanned the city for a cafe or something, but he couldn't see one from up here. Oh well. He still had the box of macarons with him, but his appetite had faded. He was going to save them for later. He looked over in the direction of Amber, but more so at her feet than at her face. He kept his distance. Getting any closer would be weird, uncalled for, he wasn't sure he'd be entirely comfortable with it to begin with.

Re: Valentines Fair
Her eyes shut tightly. Stop. Stop everything, Amber. Pulling her legs close to her chest, she squeezed them. As hard as she could. It aggravated her sometimes, that the only pain she knew was emotional pain. If only she could hurt physically. Maybe everything would be better. No, not maybe. It would be better.
But that was the odd thing about interaction. That small moment when Twilight looked at her, it was all gone. The hurting, the confusion. Like a painkiller. And once he looked away, it all came rushing back. This time, her eyes remained glued to his back. For that was all she could see of him. Wondering what she could say. What she should say. When he turned back around, her eyes found his as if pulled by a magnetic force. She couldn't look away, she didn't want to.
Something about them made her feel like she belonged.
"I-... It's... Er-... This..." Her voice was wavering in an oddly familiar way. The way it used to when she cried as a pup. "Is... My favorite spot..."

Re: Valentines Fair
"Oh." He responded flatly, his legs kicking back and forth over the edge. "It's a nice spot."
Plain and simple, just like that. Well, he wasn't exactly lying. He did like the spot. It was solitary, yet not confined. They could see so much from up here and still be away from it all. There was so much about this place that was so nice, but perhaps he just had trouble expressing this happiness. He never had a spot like this to go to when he needed it. He just traveled around in hopes he could find one. Of course in all of his time trying to find a place to relax and be alone, some idiot mobians would find their way to him and it would be a disaster. Again and again and again.
"Never been to a place like this before."

Re: Valentines Fair
"Keep it." She told him softly. Amber liked to think herself a street rat with an apartment. But nothing more. She could probably find another spot like it. It might take a while to get the habit out, but she'll adapt. She always had, always will. Feeling, or at least something close to that, strength return to her legs, the persimmon wolf stood. With a swift swish of her tail, she began to walk to the edge; where she had climbed up, and how she had always got down.
Her eyes didn't look back at him anymore. There was an unspoken conversation that she comprehended. Or perhaps she had misread the situation. But she had learned to read people in her many years of solitude. And she knew approximately what they needed her to know, without ever having her speak. Or maybe she was testing something. Like a hesitant step towards a rickety rope bridge. What will he do?
There was a sick hope in her chest- her heart? That maybe he'd be different. From everyone she's ever known. Which, in hindsight, weren't many.

Re: Valentines Fair
"But it's your-" Twilight was cut off by Amber getting up. Confusion washed over him as he watched her walk over to the ladder where she climbed up. He thought for a moment, then began to speak up again.
"But it's not my spot." He started. "It's your spot. But, by extension since I know about this place, wouldn't that make it our spot?"
Immediately catching what he just said, Twilight turned away. That was more hammy than he originally intended, what a screw up.

Re: Valentines Fair
Her ears stood erect atop her head at what he'd just said. Slowly clenching and unclenching her fists, Amber looked to her feet, and down at the long fall beneath. Now what? She didn't know. He said something that made her feel... Happy. But now what? Inhaling discreetly, she turned her head slightly to glance at him from the corner of her eyes. "Then..." Bashfully she stuffed her hands in her pockets. "I don't... Mind sharing."
After a quick, somewhat puzzled glance around (which she hoped he didn't notice), Amber started to walk back towards him, a certain warmth radiating off her form. Mist likely the bubbly warmth inside her translating into her thermokinesis. She sat, a few feet from him, and looked back towards the city line. Wondering why it seemed more colorful now.

Re: Valentines Fair
Twilight looked over at Amber as she walked back over to him. He quickly noticed the shift in temperature- but it wasn't bad. In fact, it felt nice. He liked it, so he allowed her to stay closer if she wanted. From the corner of his eye, Twilight swore he nearly saw a wisp of light coming off of him, or somewhere close to him. Like it materialized out of nothingness and flew past the two as a symbol of something nice, something better.
And then it hit him. God, he really needed something to drink. Twilight tapped his fingers on the edge of the board almost impatiently. He didn't see anything in the immediate distance, and he couldn't just leave her here. Saying anything more would be awkward, that's what he thought anyhow. He kept his mouth shut and waited to see if she would say anything else. That was a good idea. Probably.

Re: Valentines Fair
She let one or two moments fly past;moments that she would cherish for the rest of her life, before looking back at Twilight and giving a small ghost of a smile. Yet as usual, she brought her scarf up over her muzzle and hid it. Her ears picked up the sound of his tapping fingers and wondered what he was thinking. Amber observed his face, but what did she know about facial expressions? Okay, well, maybe enough to get by. You tend to stare a lot at people's faces when you don't know what to say or do around them.
And he seemed... Troubled. Was it cold? No, no, her thermokinesis would've kept them as warm as being indoors. Bored? Maybe? "Um..." She looked at her feet and practically squeezed out her voice for more words. "What's... Wrong?"

Re: Valentines Fair
Twilight's ears flicked at the whisper of a voice that crept through the fabric of the scarf. Another flick, then again, the movement of his ears made him look a little dorky at best. He looked over at Amber, at first attempting to feign a confused expression. He stared for a few minutes before blinking and giving up on the confusion. He lowered his ears in embarrassment before perking them back up again and coming clean with what he wanted to say.
"... Wannagogetsomethingtoeat?" His words seemed rushed, it's amazing he didn't trip over himself and say something stupid.
But that had yet to come, right?
